South Chiswick Low Traffic Neighbourhood - PUBLIC MEETING

The Grove Park Group (GPG) and Strand on the Green Association (SoGA) together with local stakeholder groups and Ward Councillors have invited LBH Traffic officers and Councillor Steve Curran to a PUBLIC MEETING in St Pauls Church Grove Park Road on 21 October at 7pm to discuss the South Chiswick Liveable Neighbourhood measures implemented and alternatives. The meeting will be independently chaired and is intended to be constructive. 21 October is Isleworth and Brentford Area Forum which I suspect will be in Steve Curran's calendar given he represents a ward for that area.If you wanted to get him, it may have been better to schedule this meeting to avoid existing commitments.  Area Forum dates and other council meetings are listed on the Hounslow website.

Both these groups - Strand on the Green Association and so-called 'Grove Park Group' - have campaigned very much in the interests of a handful of Grove Park residents, and I very much object to them being given any kind of credence as representing the whole of Grove Park in any dealings with the London Borough of Hounslow, or anybody.  They do not.  Their actions have been self-seeking and divisive.I am making a serious point here and do hope that any response does remain in focus. Thanks.

RaeOn what basis do you assert this? What actions are self-seeking (whatever that means) and divisive?Why are you against these groups and their arguments? What specifically that they are undertaking are you against? Why?You are free to make your comments to either the Grove Park Group or the Strand Green Association. (Assuming you live within the area they represent. If not, why do you care? Please clarify).You are also, of course, free to turn up to the meeting and make your comments, hopefully backed up by facts, not assertions.You are also free to lobby your local councillors.The idea of a local group is to represent the locals' views. This is what they are doing.

As far as I know residency is the only qualification for membership of both these groups. (I joined the Grove Park Group when I moved into the area.  Previously I belonged to my local residents association in Stamford Brook.)Any such group can only represent the views of its members, so the best way to have your view represented is to join the organisation and express it.

Possibly there's a back story here that pre-dates my time in Grove Park, but surely the point currently at issue is that both residents' associations are proposing traffic-control measures  that would re-open the affected roads to ALL south Chiswick residents. In other words precisely the opposite of what is the current position with the area chopped into smaller and smaller sections with confusing restrictions and white lists.

All this tweaking and people demanding various things. Can it ever be fair? Let’s go back to how it was pre pandemic. In fact let’s open all roads even the historic LTNs and get free movement. Cars are not evaporating so let’s spread them out over all roads, reduce congestion and make it better for everyone even cyclists. Constantly  checking for restrictions and trying to understand umpteen different schemes is not working for anyone much but the Council and their bank account. They are concentrating on these schemes and little else, that alone is reason to scrap them.

Let’s go back to how it was pre pandemic.Maggie I agree with this part of your statement, but not about the historic road changes, as some of the roads are too narrow to have two way flow of traffic, but at least you can get to that part of Chiswick. But parts of Chiswick are no go areas the way it's going.But this whole thing is a joke, and sadly separating the community.

The current position is in large part the result of campaigns by both of these groups.  They have long campaigned and been in dialogue with Hounslow unbeknownst to many other Grove Park residents.It is only now, because of upsurge of unhappiness expressed by other residents, that some changes are being proposed.

Let’s hope there’s  more scrutiny of what is going on, since the Ombudsman’s findings Patrick.  There is clearly an anti car, money making agenda going on that needs to be addressed
