Waste Transfer Station

This morning I went to a scrap metal yard run by EMR located on Transport Ave off the A4 in Brentford. I took a wrong turn and came across what I later discovered is the West London Waste Transfer Station. https://westlondonwaste.gov.uk/about-us/where-your-waste-goes/transport-avenue-waste-transfer-station/From here waste from a number of West London Boroughs is taken by train to the  Severnside Energy Recovery Centre in Avonmouth to produce energy and some also by train to landfill.See:-https://westlondonwaste.gov.uk/about-us/where-your-waste-goes/And:-https://westlondonwaste.gov.uk/take-action/rubbish-diet/In my ignorance I didn’t even know this Transfer Site and these trains existed.

Its were Hounslow Waste disposal lorry's when to dump there loads. Bt when the took it back into house they thought they could still use it, but apparently not.So Hounslow had to build their own facility in the Space Waye Reuse and Recycling Centre in Feltham

If you go from the Fox pub in Hanwell, over the locks into Warren Farm you cross a railway line. I always wonder what it's used for and maybe this is it.

Interesting. I used to drive over the Three Bridges occasionally years ago when I worked in Wembley but I was unaware of this railway line, and have passed the car repair workshop on London Rd Brentford many times without realising it used to be a railway station.

Stephen, it is quite an engineering feat. I think it’s one of Brunel’s minor masterpieces. It had never occurred to me where the single railway line goes to or comes from. You might be on to something.

The railway you refer to is a branch from Southall to the old Brentford Docks.The railway also had branches to the rear of the Firestone Rubber Factory and MacFarlane Laing Biscuit Factory.Railway bridges were once a sight across the Great West Road and on the London Road,Brentford. The car repair place mentioned is situated below the old Brentford Town Station.That line currently terminates north of the Great West Road..at a terminus for the Waste Company and a building aggregates company.There are proposals to open the existing line to passengers again to service  SKY TV staff (over 9000?).Trumpers Way offers a chance to cross the railway line.Brunel's Three Bridges is not hidden. It's there for all the see.

Just south of Brunel's Three Bridges on Windmill Lane is another interesting site.It's called Avery Farm..home to the Sultan of Brunei's family. He has stayed there over the years and has been known to have played golf at the Wyke Green Club.. and on one occasion he wandered into the Wycombe House Cricket Club... seemingly looking for company!I recall his helicopters landing on a field next to Warren Farm.Avery Farm was once occupied by Whitney Straight..the Chairman of the old BOAC. Images of Avery Farm appear on Flickr and that Whitney chap's flamboyant life is described on Wikipedia.

..and you'll notice that the Google Streetcam coverage of that stretch of Windmill Lane is not available, presumably at the Sultan's request, though can admire his extensive garden from the satellite view.
