Old Tyser Greenwood

I have always admired the windows on what is now Caffe  Nero.  Would they be listed or is  it just luck that they decided to keep them.

Well, I've just put Cafe Nero into google images and it seems they keep original fronts unless they have no natural light coming in or do need replacing

Well done Cafe Nero, if only all businesses would do that

If you look at the 1938 picture of Tyser,Greenwood that I uploaded from a Chiswick Directory many years ago..you'll see that there is a vast difference between the old and new windows."Tyser Greenwood Flickr"

I dunno - it looks pretty similar:

This was my concern when I raised the thread about the Pot Pourri shopfront.Looking at the document Joanna Biddolph posted on there, it doesn't  look as if this building is part of the conservation area and so I wonder if it has any protection from either the landlord or with the new tenancy. There are so few of these lovely original shopfronts left that it would be a great shame to lose it.

Agree that the original shop windows are better than the modern look withthe glaring lights.

Following research by a team of local volunteers the West Chiswick and Gunnersbury Society made a submission for this building as well as others in Chiswick to be included on the Council’s Local List of buildings of local architectural or historic interest. The Council has since adopted the Local List including this building.  The fine timber shopfront is recognised as being an important part of the building’s significance. The building is also within the Turnham Green Conservation Area, which gives it some degree of protection from harmful alteration or demolition.Adam O’Neill Vice-Chairman, West Chiswick and Gunnersbury Society
