I really hope the original poster was being ironic. The loudness of the music was frightening? Honestly? Would it be better if musicians were only allowed to play to a crowd of 10 using Ukuleles and tambourines?
Personally it makes me extremely happy to know that musicians, most of whom have been struggling to earn a living over the last 18 months, finally are able to get out there and do what they do. And please remember it's not just the money — part of being a performing musician is the spiritual need to get out and play, to feel the power and emotion of a live audience. It's a life blood. To have this suddenly taken away was a tragic loss for both audiences and performers. I was lucky as my income is now exclusively through music composition and royalties but I know many of me peers have really struggled. No furlough for them. We NEED music, it is a spiritual thing, it elevates us and allows us to escape, if only for a couple of hours, no matter if it's The Foo Fighters, Max Richter, Abba or Wagner, all the same.
I can't wait for tonight. We are going to see The Kaiser Chiefs with our family — it will be Ollie's first live gig (he's 13) and we're meeting lots of friends there. After lockdowns 1, 2 and 3 and the cancellation of all the festivals last year it will be an extraordinary feeling!
