Weighted blankets

I've just been reading about these. They are supposed to help you sleep better. I was wondering if anyone on the forum had tried one.

I haven't tried one but some of my family have them and think they are great. I'll have to ask them why.

I was just getting over several months of agony with Sciatica - when sleep had become a long forgotten luxury - when I got one of these, they are amazing. Don't ask me why - but you may not necessarily sleep longer than normal, but you seem to get a better quality of sleep, without any interruption, and feel so much better, they also keep you really snug, so have not been able to use during the warmer weather. Seems daft that something that is quite heavy doesn't feel like that when it's over you.

My granddaughter 7 has one. I didn’t know that adults used them. I think they’re comforting. Quite expensive but seem to be worthwhile, depending on you need I suppose. Good luck with it

"no one seems to have a bad word to say" so I better add my comment, I got one last winter but hardly used it as I found it way too hot, even though the bedroom is cool, but maybe it is just me, my preference is to sleep under light covers

Read about these. Intrigued. North facing bedroom - I was wondering if they’re as warm as a quilt.  Also, there seems to be some tenuous science on their benefits. Interested in what people actually make of them.

I don't know whether this is a case of mind over matter - so can only speak as I've found. I find my blanket warm - certainly as warm as a duvet, all I know is that after months of severely interrupted sleep - along with excellent Physio, I finally slept through the night and will use mine again as soon as the temperature goes down.

Never heard of them ~ but, before looking up what a 'weighted blanket is', as there's no explanation on this thread, I'm imagining a blanket or duvet tied around on three sides with dangling pebbles or weighty sand strips sown into three edges that keeps the bed covering in place and stops covers slipping off the sleeping body during restless sleep :-)

Don't have one and not sure what they are weighted with but think it's an all over weight. I like heavy covers and just use extra duvet, also use Moods lavender oil a few drops on cotton wipe nearby help me relax and sleep well.

Mine weighs 8KG, from ALDI online - they tend to have tiny glass beads that are quilted into little squares. What you need to do is look at the guide as to what weight is best for your size, and your preferred sleeping position.

It should weigh roughly 10% of what you do.I heard about them for the first time yesterday (via a Tweet) and now have one. I shall wait for cooler nights to try it out though. Shouldn't have to wait long: summer is ending.

Does having a pet dog or cat sleep on your bed at night count as a 'weighted blanket'?

As our cat can only manage about ten minutes without wandering all over us, her speciality is sitting on one or other of our heads - so I would say most definitely not!
