Additional batches of the affected food have been recalled:https://www.food.gov.uk/news-alerts/alert/fsa-prin-36-2021-update-1Mycotoxins (moulds produced by fungi) have been identified in some of the recalled food samples and the Food Standards Agency has issued a statement:https://www.food.gov.uk/news-alerts/news/update-from-the-food-standards-agency-food-standards-scotland-and-defra-following-the-rise-in-cases-of-feline-pancytopeniaAlthough a definitive cause has not yet been identified, it is known that mycotoxins can cause apoptosis (cell death) and/or necrosis in bone marrow, gastrointestinal cells and lymphoid tissue, and that cats are particularly susceptible.Mildly affected cats may show signs of tiredness, restlessness and innappetance and have pale gums. Seriously affected cats may bleed from their mouth or collapse and you may see blood in urine or faeces. Faeces may appear black. If in any doubt, check with your vet.
