What do I think of Dominic Cummings ? A rejected politician who wants revenge and in spades, his BS statement about his trip to BC, or wherever says it all.

He’s not a politician. Acknowledged as being blunt and aggressive,, he was special  advisor to Gove and then Johnson. He gave  them the bullets to fire. He knows where all the bodies are buried, has eugenicist leanings, and is a deeply unpleasant individual. He’s not employed by them any more and is independently wealthy. He has no need to lie for financial gain. He does not care about his public reputation and he might be just be telling the truth.

Imagine having a PM who exercises such bad judgement in appointing a deceitful narcissist as his chief advisor. Although those are the markers of Johnson’s own character.And because Cummings is seeking revenge, it does not mean that what he is saying is untrue.

I think Gove  initially employed Cummings. I agree Cummings has proven to be totally inappropriate for the role and I am sure Boris is shocked at how he is behaving now, disgraceful, I am stunned there isn’t a clause in their contract prohibiting staff from discussing or publishing government private conversations.

Yes, Gove did employ him. And Cummings was instrumental in framing the lies that brought about Brexit. Johnson is not shocked, he’s probably quite angry. Johnson has moral compass; he only ever acts in his own self-interest.. We know he has been sacked for lying in the past and lies to parliament regularly. Thank goodness we currently live in a country where people are allowed to repeat conversations. Imagine if we could not.....

Jayne,Your post is somewhat disingenuous. Surely you know that? Be honest and admit you are endeavouring to obfuscate.Sure, Cummings was originally hired by Gove. (What would you expect from a horrid toad like Gove?) That was a while ago.Time passed. Then, separately, much later, Johnson hired Cummings. Clear and different hiring. After Cummings had proved his worth as an arch manipulator of opinion. Johnson clearly liked the things Cummings could/claimed do. Anything you want to clarify ?

No professional person would/should discuss private & confidential info from their company meeting and I would expect the same high standards within government. Repeating any conversation is termed gossip as it only covers the angles, points one person wants to share which is rarely a true reflection  of the whole, hence gossip. Cummings has proven to be a most unreliable witness round trip to Durham case in point. If in fact he faced security threat that is easily explained rather then the rather elaborate spin he said at the press conference!

Well you and I (and many many others) whole heartedly agree that Cummings is not a man of integrity or decency. He himself is proud that he is not a man of any establishment and has frequently sought to shake up existing standards, ways of working and traditions. He saw Brexit as one such shake up and also a way of sticking it to established political views. Johnson hired him because he saw these abilities in Cummings. Which was a massive misjudgment by Johnson (or as I prefer to view it, par for the course and as good a decision as Johnson has ever delivered). So its hard to feel sorry for Johnson regardless of whether Cummings is right or wrong to spill the beans with insights into Johnson's woeful premiership.

If that private/ confidential discussion reveals unlawful, immoral conduct then by not reporting it , you are colluding with it.Cummings is a dreadful man, so why did Johnson (and many people on the forum) defend him last year when we all knew he had broken the rules that he’d made up with the PM? It seems that Tories loved him when Johnson loved him but not so much now.
