Well done Sadiq Khan!

Masks are to remain compulsory after the 19th on London Transport.Over the last few weeks I have had to travel  Greenwich five times and have noticed the Tube and Clipper getting busier. With mask wearing the norm I felt reasonable comfortable.If however I  had to make the journey when many people weren't wearing masks I would opt to drive and I believe many folk would do likewise.I can't remember the last time I wrote this but, but well done Sadiq!

I agree that the anti-maskers on public transport are idiots and deserve to incur a hefty penalty if caught. The problem is that there are just too many of them for the authorities, whether they be police or TfL officials, to deal with. Like the virus, we just have to learn to live with them, and hope that something unpleasant happens to them to repay them for their selfish stupidity.

Maybe we British are just too polite.My Italian sister in law tells me if someone is not wearing a mask when they should people around them soon tell them what's what.

Too polite to mention it and then regret it later...  the practice nurse, the shoe shop assistant, the opthalmologist's assistant.  All far too casual. It requires bravery to confront unsociable behaviour these days.A delightful colleague I used to work under was a Chief Police Inspector who was travelling off duty in a "quiet" railway carriage when he stood up to walk over to a young passenger and politely ask him if he wouldn't mind turning down his music player.Minutes later he was violently hit over the head with a bottle, left bleeding heavily and traumatised.Months later, being off work and hospitalised he chased his assailant with the aid of CCTV coverage and ensured he was eventually caught and justice administered.

Sadly in this country you could well be attacked if you said something! There's no enforcement. I've never seen staff or Transport Police ask people to put on their masks before entering the station or buses.It should come with a heavy fine and properly enforced by the Transport Police. I feel for station staff, many on their own and unable to enforce the rules.

I agree it can be difficult and dangerous to speak up.  Some people are naturals at saying something and getting away with it.  Although it isn't equivalent I love the way that Joyce Grenfell spoke to the children in her sketches.  I couldn't even do that.

‘It requires bravery to confront antisocial behaviour these days’.I wonder if this is true or whether it’s just an impression given by the popular press.  Has there really been any change compared to the past?  Official statistics record that there was a peak of violent offences in 1995 but since then there has been mostly a steady decline which might suggest that it requires less bravery to confront a wrongdoer than before.

I remember looking into crime figures from past years years ago. From what i can remember was a little like this but watered down Violent crime was higher in the 60s 70s then came a spike in robberies in the late 70s and early 80s. Current crime compared to the past gives a higher percentage of domestic crime and domestic abbuse.

The CEO of Goldman Sachs was on the radio this morning saying that when they went back they would be wearing masks...There is also an NHS poster about saying that masks will still be worn in healthcare settings.We still need good ventilation and social distancing.
