Why are Chiswick vaccination rates so low?

This site has done a good job of highlighting the relatively low level of vaccine uptake in this area. However, one thing the coverage fails to highlight is not just how low the figures are in a London context but how they are so far behind the rest of the country. Chiswick has a second dose rate of 47% and the total for the UK is 66%No attempt is really made to explain this wide gap but until it is narrowed our community remains more vulnerable to the latest wave of the disease.

Be cautious about comparing percentages which might be calculated with different populations.  The headline figures use NOS estimates derived from the 2011 census, whereas the regional figures use the number of people aged 18 and over on the National Immunisation Management Service (NIMS).

And the NIMS figures are unreliable - seems they usually overestimate the target population, thus underestimate the percentage vaccinated.

That's very helpful and explains why an issue wasn't made of the national figures but Chiswick remains well below the London average.

Presumably we can reasonably compare different regions and local areas if they use the same system even if it’s not perfect. If so London has lower vaccination rates than much of the country and Chiswick is lower than the london average though not as low as Acton or Hammersmith. But this must in part reflect differences in age distributions with outer suburbs of London having an older population.

Well there’s more info on the government coronavirus site than I thought, you can search vaccination uptake by age group and region including local authority. The data is shown as a graphic but if you click on the graph you get the numbers. For London it shows for 8 July 75% uptake for 50-54 yr olds, for Hammersmith & Fulham 70% for this group. Hounslow and Ealing are on the london average. By comparison the South East of England is 85%.
