Suggest you look up the ULEZ rules on the TfL website to start with.Generally (I say generally!) petrol-engine cars after 2005 seem to be ok and exempt vehicles pre 1972 but you have to check carefully. Most experts suggest you avoid diesel if possible. If you find a vehicle that suits you can check if it's exempt from the £12.50 a day charge by dialling in the reg. no. to check on the TfL website.

Hello Rachel. It will be difficult to source a used petrol engine version and the petrol TSI engine which is currently ULEZ compliant, has only been fitted since around 2018/2019.You will not find a ULEZ compliant engine in a T5 unless it is a very late model and even then if they change the ULEZ requirements from Euro 5 to Euro 6 your T5 will be liable to the full ULEZ charge. To have any degree of longievity you need to be looking at a late model T6 with either the petrol TSI engine or a 120PS Euro 6 Diesel.

You’re best chance is to make it electric, and hope that all private motorised vehicles don’t get banned in the next 15 years.https://electric-campers.com/

Have you looked at the price of hiring outside London against a purchase price? Depends obviously on number of times of use.

Wow, £45,0000 for a fifteen year old VW.

"Wow, £45,0000 for a fifteen year old VW"I agree it does seem rather a lot and I jolly well hope they throw in a full tank of petrol and a beach hut in Bournemouth for that sort of money.

Sorry, I was just pulling his leg as the comma is misplaced so reads as four hundred and fifty thousand pounds. An easy mistake which we have all made no doubt.

Correction, a zero too many.

OOPS!

One other thing you need to check is insurance because some insurance companies won't insure a campervan if you plan to park it on the road. They prefer off road parking. But shop around and maybe be prepared to pay an extra premium.
