I'm with Adrian on this as well as Francis who posted on another thread started by John Connelly. As Francis points out, committing a hate crime is easier to do than one might think. What we've seen lately is one's reputation might be challenged and that involved engaging legal representation, demanding retribution and payment, but committing a hate crime carries no financial penalty. Tsk. Tsk. Don't do it again. Take the caution. One would think with the former, a cordial meeting with a bit of magnanimity would have ticked the box especially when living in a glass house. Don't hate the player, hate the game also pops to mind. The latter is far more insidious to correct. Look no further than some of the comments made on the other thread. I had no idea who John Connelly is but as a former leader of Hounslow Council it makes his comments all the more offensive. Brushing behavior like his aside with snide comments about missed humor, having one too many or some such thing does no good. Every time someone goes near the line or worse, crosses it, they need to be called out emphatically and if need be legally. If not, the problem festers as it has with the example of anti-semitism in the Labor Party. Has that problem really been dealt with effectively? Does it linger? The same holds true for equality pending in any sphere of life regardless of any defining characteristic. As for Helen taking a pot shot at Loraine for looking at Companies House - what Loraine did was something we've never seen from local media: she investigated. Anyone can with public records. There is a clear link between Chiswick Calendar, the Flower Market and Karen. Fair and balanced reporting? Or a bit of PR and controlling the narrative? There is no shame in asking questions. There is shame in burying heads either in the sand or up one's ____ or up someone else's.
