David Darlow explained" A friend has been given four speeding tickets over a very short period by the Metropolitan Police for speeding in the same place."" Now she is very upset to learn that she must appear in court, with all the associated costs and possibility of a criminal record."...Whatver the rights and wrongs of this particular case, the position is as follows (from the govt website)" The *minimum* penalty for speeding is a £100 fine and 3 penalty points added to your licence.""You *could* be disqualified from driving if you build up 12 or more penalty points within a period of 3 years "https://www.gov.uk/speeding-penaltiesSo in the first instance to prevent herself from being disqualified from driving, its advisablethat your friend *should* either attend court herself, or secure representation i.e a solictorto plead her case on her behalf. There was a notorious case quite recently where a speed limit change on the North Circular Road saw a number of motorists clock up successive speeding offences although quite what the outcome was in that case, I don't know. A bit of internet research might allow your friend or a representaive to plead her case on that basis, without need of a solicitor. It used to be the case that *one* speeding offence could be mitigated i.e no points by attenndence at a speed awaraeness course. Howver I think that applied only to the one, isolated offenceBut whatever the case, even 9 points on a licence isn't going to do the Insurance Premium much good, michael adams...
