R Rate Corona Virus

I dont understand, last year as the r rate approached 1 it was terrible, urgent lock down, it's all that was heard. Skip forward in time and its 1.2-1.4 but nothing much is said about it. Can someone please clarify, as I know someone will understand this.

Basically the difference is vaccinations.The majority of the most vulnerable have now had their jabs so the increase in cases in the youngsters, who generally do not suffer serious effects, is not as important.

If people get it and are not seriously ill because they have been vaccinated, then it is less of a problem than if they were stretching the NHS by being in hospital and at risk of dying.

Totally agree with Will & Claire, Covid is here to stay so it’s about managing it through vaccines and if hospitalisation are low then we all carry on with life and business. It goes without saying we all need to be careful.

I know over the last 10 days a few teenagers locally that have come down with the Delta variant but know of no adults with anything. Hopefully we can get them jabbed up as quick as possible

Tell those teenagers to stop being so selfish, they will act as a feeding ground for covid and potentially kill others, be smart get vaccinated! thankfully all the teenagers/ early 20’s I know are front of the queue for the jab they value their family and friends.

I know plenty of teenagers who want to get vaccinated but they aren’t entitled. It’s odd because in the USA and Canada they are getting it over the age of 12. Surely if the parents and children want it, they should get it. Children are used to vaccinations. 15 to 18 year olds who get around and socialise are most likely to spread it.

I believe the decision to implement any vaccination programme for any particular demographics is determined based on consideration of  'cost/benefit' to the individuals within that demographic. 
I expect, as the evidence demonstrates that (by and large) people between 12 and 15 years are at little risk from Covid, the cost/benefit analysis doesn't stack up. 
Very happy to be corrected though.

We may yet vaccinate under-18s. The Powers that Be are still mulling it over. It may well depend on how the virus behaves over the next month or so.
