It’s not a ‘song’ contest but a mix of strangely dressed (and some  barely) cavorting about to weird music.  There weren’t many entries worth listening to but I did feel Malta did well and UK too.Time to walk away or for this expensive extravaganza to end.

It effectively costs the UK £310,000 each year to enter this debacle each year. Our entry wasn't particularly strong but political voting since the competition was extended has made it a farce.

Is the 310k an entrance fee or what the BBC pays to broadcast it? If the latter, then it's a cheap way of filling an entire evening for big audience figures.

It would be cheaper still to put up one of the testcards that the BBC used to show when programmes were off-air. It wouldn't be any more boring.

Last night I thought I’d have a watch of Eurovision, it might be good for a chuckle, but I lasted less than five minutes.  I remembered I hadn’t watched the previous night’s Jules Holland’s Later, so I switched and was rewarded with a magnificent set of archive material chosen by St Vincent including Al Green, Portishead, Lou Reed, PJ Harvey and a proper heavy rock band, At the Drive In, who made Maneskin seem about exciting as Val Doonican.

Like it or not, the Eurovision these days is about glitter, legs, hair and choreographed dancing. If we don't want to go along with all that stuff, we should just stay out of it, rather than feature someone who's obviously going to get nuls points.

Ed, I was speaking generally. The French did deservedly well with a soulful chanson, which contrasted markedly with  most entries. As for the Italian winners, there was plenty of hair and glitter in the presentation of their ersatz heavy metal.

We recorded plaenty to watch as we'd rather stick pins in our eyes that watch that total tripe, it is a farce.
