e-scooters coming to Ealing.

Whoopy do, can hardly wait. As with gaudy coloured hire bikes that are left anywhere, these little playthings will end up creating an eyesore and another trip hazard for residents. I was walking down Longfield Avenue W5 last week when one of these scooters squeezed past me on a narrow pavement. The female rider couldn't have been any older than 15, no helmet and no prior warning she was coming. I've seen them on pavements, underground station platforms and occasionally on the road. I've seen them with two teenagers on one, parents with small children on them. They will be seen in Chiswick, in the cycle superhighway, no chance!

Are they planned to go on road or pavement do you know? Or renters just left to own devices?

Where's Phillipa when you need her? I think they are supposedly limited to 12mph on the road which is probably the last place they'll be seen

I am of the general opinion that e-scooters are not a good idea in London. However on reading about it I think the plan to require participates to complete an "online safety course" is a good idea. How about putting number plates on them as well?

As far as I can see it would be illegal to use these e-scooters on C9 once you reach Chiswick from Hammersmith. Hounslow has not opted to be one of the pass through boroughs. Makes the trial more or less pointless for all Chiswick residents including the ones living in Ealing.

Does anyone really think that the riders of e-scooters will pay the slightest attention to laws and regulations? Whether legal or illegal, there are plenty whizzing through Chiswick, on roads and pavements, at the moment.
