The Sealed Knot

Has anyone seen them ?I've seen them a couple of times,once on Richmond Hill anothertime in Gunnersbury Park.A reenactment of the Battle of Turnham Green would be a sight to see.

I have to say I've never seen a historical reenactment of a battle and it never occurred!  However, now you mention it, sounds like a brilliant thing to take the kids to.Where was the battle of Turnham Green?  I vaguely recall a plaque near Laveli's.

Cyclists are probably a bit fitter.....but you can do a lot of damage in a Cavalier :-)

There is a very, very, very small section of society (followers of Half Man Half Biscuit) who will have had a visceral reaction to your post along the lines of:“Sealed Knot Society, let’s see you try and do this one:Luton Town – Millwall, nineteen eighty-five”

The Battle of Turnham Green was re-enacted by the Sealed Knot 30 or 40 years ago. My wife and I attended before we lived in Chiswick which is now about 35 years. We came because friends of us who did live here were interested and got us involved.

This suggestion was in the retail report produced by the Chiswick Shops Task Force last year - as a big whole-Chiswick event - and we've been taking about it with the events department at the council (Hounslow). It was included in our report as a way to promote and involve all our shops, bars, cafes and restaurants as the battle took place all over Chiswick, not just on Turnham Green. There is scope for different aspects to take place in different parts, progressing to Turnham Green. Now our thinking is that it could bring our whole community together after a prolonged period of division and anger, and the horribleness of Covid. It would appeal to and involve all ages, too. Shall we do it?

Splendid idea. The Battle could approach from Brentford,as before, and the idea gain extra support from the Council.The Group performed at the Brentford Festival in Boston Manor Park some 15 years ago..organised of course by Linda Massey.

Perhaps the original battle lines could be followed and all locals to wear period garb and stalls to sell mead and hog roasts.'The battlefield was the open space formed by Turnham Green, Acton Green and Chiswick common field. I met a guy in a very tatty Civil War costune on Turnham Green, and asked him if he was in a historical re-enactment group."I'm a Frayed Knot", he replied.
