Horticultural Society Election

I am concerned that your front page item on the recent election of a new chair of the Horticultural Society is entirely one sided and unbalanced. There are two sides to this issue and you have published only one.

Having seen - some years ago - 'Allotment Wars' on the T.V.- there is absolutely nothing on God's green Earth that could persuade me to get involved in the internecine politics that always seems to bedevill these groups. It's supposed to be about growing things for God's sake!

I feel sorry for those former Chiswickians lying in their graves in the New Chiswick Cemetery next door to the Allotments.How can the deceased Rest in Peace with that racket going on next door. Close it down and extend the Cemetery.

Same as St Mary's at Churchfield Burial  Ground my Great Grandparents are buried there and it's quite disturbing to the living let alone the deceased. when there is disruption near a resting place.

The Allotments next to the New Chiswick Cemetery are actually part of the cemetery.When the section of the cemetery being used now is full, the Council will start removing the next section of the Allotments to increase the cemetery size.If you look at the map of the cemetery it is designed with a  set of  pathways that lead from the traffic lights on Staveley Road entrance to another entrance in Burlington lane, which used to be seen beside and behind the tennis club.I wonder if its been built over by years of development?

I am a relatively new allotment holder and it is a joy to be part of it. My understanding is that the Society was a pretty friendly place under Henry's leadership as treasurer then chair, until all the bad behaviour in online meetings kicked off, triggering resignations and ill-feeling. I think lockdown made everything worse for a lot of people on a number of levels, and maybe things got a bit 'Jackie Weaver' in W4.I do not know either new or former chairmen well but have met both parties and regard them both highly, as friendly, helpful, knowledgeable gentlemen. I wish both well and am confident that they will work together to get things back on an even keel and make the Society grow in numbers, unity and productivity.

Obvs. The Society has a stall at the Flower Market today, where people can join and have access to the regular SundayTrading Hut to buy seeds, plants, compost and all things gardening related.

I laid my mother and my father to rest in that cemetery because of the allotment and the school.  My father was an allotment grower for over 30 years of my life and my mother was a dinner lady.  I thought it perfect for them.  If anyone thinks getting rid of allotments is the way to solve a problem then I will warn them only once try that and I am fairly certain my father will rain down onW4 such a pestilence that they would need Tom Cruise or Brendan Fraser  to deal with the fall out

Lockdown fever has got to most of us in the last 12 months but I know my father went to his allotment 4 times a day in summer and twice a day in winter.  If he was not able to go it would have been hell for my mum who he would insist on 'helping' her do things in the house.  He even went to his allotment after having radio therapy for prostate cancer.  My mum was terrified he would get ill riding his bike there and back and would ring me every time he left the house.  I knew exactly what to say to him to stop him.  I told him mum was terrified so he stopped going for 3 days after each session.  He was given 18 months and we still had him 8 years later which I put down to fresh from the ground to the table veg without chemicals and all the cycling
