Hammersmith Bridge

The Times came up with an excellent suggestion today.Replace the old (not fit for modern purpose) bridge and build a new one to be called the Prince Philip Bridge.It would show forward thinking and be a fitting monument to the Prince.Of course this would take common purpose from all parties involved to get behind the idea and basically get on with it.Remember the Italians built a new bridge in Genoa in under two years.Where there is a will there is a way.

Yes, it's all very well the existing bridge being historic and listed and so forth but if it doesn't function as a bridge ...

I agree with that comment.  It's not as if it is in a secluded place over an ornamental stream - Hammersmith is a major river  crossing and its bridge must be fit for purpose.  The Prince Philip Bridge it shall be - apt as it leads to the Barnes Wetlands too.

There was a woman on the local news recently. She lives on one side of the bridge and works on the other. She used to have a 5-minute walk to work. She is not a happy bunny.

Excellent idea. This Bridge shows just how awful and incompetent local Government is. This would reduce congestion and hence emissions

Yes Chris it is a real shame that those Italians built the first bridge. Otherwise we could all be floating around in our coracles shooting at wild-fowl with our bows and arrows and throwing the severed heads of our enemies into the river. Nostalgia is not what it used to be.

Since Hammersmith Bridge has been falling down for many decades now why on earth were all those flats and restaurants built on the Hammersmith side. A new bridge could have been built around the existing one, plenty of room then, but not now.
