From a possibly unreliable source who used to be something of a regular there I heard that the family who used to run it had moved out. The owners wanted to redevelop it which would have meant the loss of their accommodation. Reports on this site say a couple of applications to reduce the size of the pub (and leave it without staff accommodation) have been turned down by the council so it looks like it is a bit in limbo.

It seems to me this is likely to in limbo for a very long time not unlike the Pissarro saga that draged on for years.Times change and buildings need to be allowed to adapt to accommodate these changes not to held back by what was.
