I've heard that's good too but D89 etc are fantastic.All on Ch4 .They span the end of the cold war,the Wall etc coming down ina very entertaining way.

I saw a few of the first series but didn't finish them. No stamina, me. But they were very good. Funny to see Walkmans being the new exciting thing!

I remember being in the back of the car listening to my walkman and my dad shouting: turn it down! It wasn't the music, it was the crap primitive headphones. They were rubbish.

'The true luxury of the West is that no one pays attention to you. They call that freedom'.Perhaps that was true then,not so much more.It's a brilliant series,a bit Le Carrie,Len Deighton and Homeland.Very entertaining .

I always found Le Carre quite hard work. Enjoyed Frederick Forsyth much more.

Oh definitely -a lot of the forgery and skulduggery are still standard practice,probably learnt from the book and film.

That's quite a question.I sent my son Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee recently so that would be one.If This A Man by Primo Levi and anything written by him.mmThose two come to mind without thinking too hard a about it.How about you ?

Bury My Heart is a great one.  That was on my family bookshelf growing up. I'd say Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat.  Huckleberry Finn is my favourite American novel. King of The World by David Remnick really impressed me with his writing style.

Interesting, I don't know either of them.I used to know a Canadian anthropology professor who lived in chiswick who  turned me on to Robertson Davies whose novels were about how the ,loyal to the crown New Yorkers ,fled up the Hudson to Toronto.

you can buy never cry wolf and king of the world very easily. I wish my grandad had written a book, or a few notes. A humble Baker Street NCP manager in the 60s and 70s. Best mate was Dickie Henderson. I met him - no memory at all.  Arranged for my parents to meet Jimmy Stewart after his show in Harvey in the West End in '75. They went to their restaurant - 7th wedding anniversary... Ouch!

Haha !He must've had a few tales to tell.Jimmy Stewart eh.I knew Ron Moody,Fagin in Oliver, from where i lived in chelsea and southwark.Maybe you (like me ) should write down these half forgotten memories for our grandkids -'who ? never heard of 'em !'
