Cyclists on pavements inconsiderate runners - Try Kew Gardens

After battling with inconsiderate pedestrians and runners, dog owners and pavement cyclists over recent months, we have given up on our river walks and local parks. We have just taken out membership to Kew Gardens. After 3 trips the ticket paid for itself. Blissful surroundings, watching the first signs of spring beginning to unfurl has proved delightful. Everytime we go we find another hidden gem. Highly recommend others give it a go. At times you feel as if you have the entire gardens to yourself.

Totally agree but don’t advertise it or the despicably selfish joggers will try to take it over too. Fortunately they don’t allow cyclists!!

Not all runners are ‘despicably selfish’. Some pedestrians and cyclists are too. Stop generalising.

You can cycle in Kew Gardens......once a year, but it costs.

Seeing that dogs too are not the flavour of the month on this forum, it is worth mentioning that Kew Gardens disallow them, with the probable exception for dogs for the blind.

I didn’t mean to offend all cyclists, dog walkers or runners. It is the minority who are inconsiderate who spoil if for the rest of us. I merely wanted to suggest a lovely alternative.

We try for a weekly walk there. We have to pre-book our visit, but clear of weekends it's never been a problem.Judging by the emails I get from them, Kew is suffering on the income front at the moment, so paying to walk there whether through annual membership or pay-on-the-day will do something to help them out.

Yes, I should qualify that remark by adding that all joggers, who don’t leave at least 4 metres when passing pedestrians, are despicably selfish. We had one in Richmond Park the other morning who insisted on running close up to pedestrians and coughing as he passed them. What kind of person would do that!

I was there this afternoon; lovely carpets of crocuses everywhere. Quite busy as it's half term.The staff are allowed to cycle!

Yes I have been surprised at the number of kids there before half term. It’s unbelievable how many parents can’t cope with the home schooling and have to get their kids out. Hope they spare a thought for what teachers have to put up with day in and day out.

Yes for weekends but not when you are supposed to be at home doing zoom schooling. The kids in the park during school hours are the product of  bad / lazy parenting.  Quite astounding too that kids now home schooling have forgotten how to eat with a knife and fork because the teachers are there to ‘discipline’ them!  Disgraceful that parents have been permitted to shun most responsibilities of raising a child and put it all on the teachers!

Rubbish Carl.  Why do  you lie? When have I ever claimed that I always stay at home?  I am out every day but I  strictly follow  the laws and government guidance and go that one step further to protect myself, others and the NHS.

'Yes for weekends but not when you are supposed to be at home doing zoom schooling."Strange then, that when my kids were at school, I was asked on several occasions to accompany school trips to Kew during the week. There are many educational opportunities - one that is missed by many visitors is the area sandwiched behind the college buildings and Kew Road (just south of the bonsai greenhouse) which traces the evolution of the plant kingdom.
