Hi, can anyone recommend a local child psychiatrist?Thanks

Can't your GP help?  They will have access to a list of local ones and surely must have more personal knowledge of a few of those.

If I was in this situation I think I would prefer personal recommendations and feedback from people that had used the professional.

My comment would be...make sure you interview the psychiatrist in detail first, to check that you find their views reasonable.There are lots of different approaches, and you definitely want to avoid someone, however good and well recommended they may be, who has opposing views to your own.

Apologies David I was not being unsympathetic, far from it.  I can imagine how very upsetting and worrying it must be for both parents and child.  I merely meant, if starting from scratch, with no experience, I just thought a chat with your GP might help.  However, I do agree that personal recommendations are often excellent, maybe your GP would know the specialist being suggested.  My very best wishes and do hope you find someone very soon who can help.

Hi your GP may be able to refer you to CAHMS- child and adolescent mental Heath services.  There is one in Hammersmith. Good luck
