As has been said elsewhere the NHS is following & adapting an existing contingency plan for mass vaccinations in the event of a flu pandemic, developed in the aftermath of the 2009 swine flu pandemic. The government, fortunately given their lamentable performance with both PPE and Track & Trace, thankfully, has very little to do with it. Also, reassuringly, after a relatively sharp drop in daily vaccinations on Monday & Tuesday over 340,000 people have had their first jab in the last 24 hours, nearly 140,000 more than yesterday and over 100,000 more than Monday. The role out on the continent has been dreadfully slow, I have Dutch clients pulling their hair out over how slowly things are going. The EMA has been slower to approve the vaccines & I thought their response when the UK approved the Pfizer vaccine, was petty, petulant and mean spirited. I do find it amusing though that the politicians who are very busy saying we shouldn't rush to make comparisons with other countries in reference to our appalling death toll (another 1800 souls lost in the last 24 hours, yet another grim record) are very keen to trumpet our vaccination stats. Given our governments lamentable performance in keeping a lid on the virus, it's just as well that currently our vaccination program does seem to be up there with the best.
