Lucy, I think that's a really lovely idea. But with one caveat - they finish their singing and then move on really pronto, as some they sing to may think it's like a trick and treat/traditional carol singing (used to do it a lot in my home town and nearby to raise money for charity) and make it clear the people they sing for don't need to give them any money. Maybe a small tasteful placard held by lead singer saying something like 'we are not singing for money, so please don't come out to donate'. ?
