Any government would have been up against it with this situation. But as someone more knowledgeable than me has said, many would have learned from previous mistakes, this one - and particularly the P.M. have gone on repeating them over and over. Instead of prattling about world beating systems and moonshots some humility and honesty with us would have been far more sensible. If I've seen the sentence 'over promised, and under delivered' once in a newspaper I've seen it dozens of times. The government have squandered the good-will they had to start with and become a bunch of blitherers and wafflers, style over substance and a P.M. who just wants to be loved - Aaah!
