Broadband scam.

Broadband scam is back they say it's the legal department and illegal activity on your device and that you are out of contract and need to renew, so I cut short and hung up, called B.T Broadband and they confirm when my renewal was and that it was a scam to get my details, luckily knew my renewal was not due, they had also sent me a letter a few days before to say my Broadband was up for renewal which I ignored as knew itwasn't due yet.  Please take care, check when your renewal is and be prepared if they call you.

Does anybody know what the purpose is of the telephone calls that have nobody there when you answer the ‘phone an then get disconnected ? Is it just multiple calls and they engage with the first person who answers, usually something along the lines of a car accident I have been involved in that was not my fault. Disconnect and block number.

These are driven by autodialler software. Loads of numbers dialled simultaneously and whoever answers first gets the 'special treatment'. Another variation catches those who dial the number back (after using caller display).  The 'diallers' have thousands of numbers, so it's very hard to block them.

When I reported this call to B.T. Broadband the chap said he would put call bock on my phone but said it would not stop all of them, then few hours later the same woman called me back so don't know how long it takes to block them.  Just told her I knew it was a scam and not to call back.

I regularly get two/three calls a day. The blocking facility on my 'phone is full to overflowing so no longer works. My advice is just put the 'phone down as soon as you realise who it is.

I haven't had a 'phone plugged into my landline for five years or more. Problem is, the scammers are calling mobile numbers too. No escape it seems.
