Whatever your view of the markets on the High Road, and I for one am very much in favour as long as the established retailers are happy for them to proceed, this is outrageous. It seems like the Boris Johnson motto of 'F**k Business' is not being adopted at the local level.Entrepreneurs like Jennifer Titmuss do not enjoy a guaranteed salary and a defined benefit pension but without people like her there would be nobody to pay the salaries of those that work in the borough licensing department. Even if she was in someway at fault, which by her own account she wasn't, to cancel the event at such a late stage without warning could not have been better calculated to maximise her losses. Nobody is likely to be held account for this because the council don't see it as their responsibility to protect the interests of small local businesses. See the treatment of Turnham Green Terrace and Devonshire Road for details. This culture needs to change in the very challenging economic times we face ahead with a no deal Brexit and a huge debt burden from Covid-19.
