Chiswick High Road pavements - policing required

The broken pavements are a hazard for us humans...and they have become a hazard for dogs...walking down the High Road is like an obstacle course...trying to avoid dog mess...used masks...and plastics...can’t the police hand out fines to those who show zero care for others?

There are scary looking Enforcement officers on the High Road now, so let’s see what they achieve. Although I hear they are sometimes accusing people of things they deny doing, such as non smokers dropping cigarette ends.I’m sure the cyclists who like to ride on the pavements and who have the ear of the Council, will get the repairs to the paving organised soon !

Be careful what you wish for. Ealing has had for some time had enforcement officers employed by a company called Kingdom. They are notorious for issuing fines to soft targets including a woman disposing of a cup of coffee by pouring it down a drain and families feeding ducks. They won't tackle genuine anti-social behaviour but look to get to their target of PCN issuance by picking on people who aren't going to say no to them so the elderly and women are disproportionately affected. OFten it is their word against yours and the law abiding pay the fines whereas others just tell them to get lost and walk away.Given Hounslow Council's attitude to Chiswick High Road it is likely to be the most rigourously policed because this will be a great new money spinner.

Interesting, this must be related to the two militia style uniform wearing people I referred to yesterday in another thread.As I mentioned, they had no visible identification other than one wearing a bodycam, there was no way of knowing who or what there were. Personally I wouldn't stop for them if they tried to stop me.

It's often the case that it's the 'easy pickings' who cop it. I still feel aggrieved by a telling off for 'bobbing' by a pool attendant many moons ago while others - largely adolescent males - were left to run along the side and dive bomb in making one fear that they could land on top of you.Bobbing, by the way, involved holding on to the side trough of the pool and gently going up and down - not under. Of course I may not have been involved in such 'distracting' behaviour had the lads not been allowed to carry on the way they were.Larf!

Whatever happened to the ‘spitting man’ which was the headline a couple of months ago? He made quite a fuss but he was sweating and spitting along TGT and seemed most put out when issued with a PCN. It made the Daily Mail but has gone very quiet.We seem to want more police or enforcement officers on the streets to tackle anti-social behaviour but get annoyed when they challenge it and issue a fine when we consider the misdemeanour not serious enough. And yes, the council engages a private company to do the work who are in it purely to make money and will go for the easy pickings to make their numbers look good. How did we get here?

I really put it down to this government. Their priority is the Brexit macho thing and, although they’ve had the pandemic to deal with, I think the attitude is, for anything else:Oh, just get on and sort it.  So private firms are hired and their only concern is profit for themselves. There is no longer any higher authority with sense.

Yes, if you even look decent middle-class, etc... your the exact target they go for because those groups are generally law abiding pay their taxes and won’t want the stigma of a PCN around their necks; so they’ll pay easy peasy.
