School Hours Restrictions Staveley Rd

Have the restrictions been held back or something? I was at the bus stop at 1330 today and the signs were covered up. I thought they were to be applicable from today.I did notice that the signs facing towards the A316 were almost at the school gates, so a driver would be well into the road before seeing them.

I have been in email correspondence with Hounslow's School Streets team about how they are proposing to indicate when the restrictions  are in operation - by which I mean term times rather than hours. They accept that there's an issue and the signage needs to reflect this. Supposedly they are working on a solution involving flip-down signs though I have pointed them towards rather more sophisticated options. I've no idea if this has affected the unveiling of the signs that are already in place.

Thanks for that Bruce. I still think the signs will be too far away from the junction even if they are changed.Incidently, plenty of PCNs were issued yesterday it being the first Sunday of the month. The boot fair hasn't been held since the first lockdown so many got a nasty reminder of what the signs mean.

Bob, I've just had a look at the relevant page on the Council's website. It is still just showing a proposed start date of sometime in November! https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/info/20053/transport/2181/south_chiswick_liveable_neighbourhood/8 This is a diagram of where the signs and markings are supposed to be. Where were PCNs issued yesterday? I assume this has nothing  to do with School Streets?

Hi again Bruce, the only signs I have seen are the ones in Staveley Rd and I think there is one in Riverside Drive although I didn't look closely just saw the back of a covered sign (same black and yellow tape as the others).I thought I read that all road changes came into force today. November was always stated but for anyone to see the displayed notices then they would have to walk up close to read an A4 LBH letter on a private parking sign o/s the former gravedigger's house. I think the covered signs either went up over the weekend or this morning, I don't know for sure.The PCNs yesterday were nothing to do with the School Streets, but doubtless related to the currently non-existent car boot sale normally held on the first Sunday of the month. These signs are clearly displayed and have been there since the sale started.

I see - I wonder how many got caught out by the Hartington and SOTG traps on their first day of operation? Supposedly there is a sign before the Staveley Road junction giving 80 yards warning, but after that, as you say you are onto the school entrance very quickly. In that sense it's like the turn into Hartington from the A316; the unsure or unwary will be into the turn before they've quite worked out what's going on. If it had been a nicer day I was going to walk up Hartington Road to see how many were doing last-minute U turns. Maybe tomorrow!

Cars, lorries and all motorised vehicles making U turns chuck out lots of nasty fumes where there were none before.  Bad news for all with acute lung disease or asthma and detrimental to healthy bods too.  The idea of LTNs was to create safer neighbourhoods - so that's working is it???

Pretty sure they have flip down signs near some sports grounds (Craven Cottage and Twickenham spring to my mind) and it's a effective (and cheap) solution to flagging up when it's term time (and hence when the restrictions can be active).Is there a need for a more sophisticated solution?
