Decision of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee on the Call-in of CEX 496 Streetspace Programme

To refer the original decision back to The Hounslow Cabinet for consideration within five working days, along with a long list of recommendations for action.

Hard to say if this heralds a change of policy. It would be wise I think to await the deliberations of the next meeting of the Hounslow Cabinet. There was certainly little sign last night of any desire by cabinet members to conciliate or admit mistakes or failure.It was however extraordinary last night to hear a Labour Councillor calmly calling for the resignation of two cabinet members - Hanif Khan and Katherine Dunne. The Conservative Group were advised that the council's constitution barred us from submitting a motion of no confidence in these two cabinet members. We instead had to content ourselves with a motion of no confidence in Cllr Curran the leader who had appointed them.

On the contrary we were subjected to condescending sermons on how we would in time come to love all the traffic measures that were being implemented and would ultimately see the error of our ways.It was nevertheless extraordinary to hear a Labour Councillor calmly calling for the resignation of two cabinet members - Hanif Khan and Katherine Dunne. Isn't this politicians doing what politicians do Sam?Whatever the party, once there are more than a few gathered together, the backstabbing starts.The musical chairs for leader of the Hounslow Conservatives is evidence of that.I did email John Todd before the meeting and pointed out that his call-in submission referred to measures decided over year ago where there had been a residents survey and no less that 4 consultations (including statutory).

MichealWhatever the party, once there are more than a few gathered together, the backstabbing starts.A bit like a few posters on  Chiswickw4I did email John Todd before the meeting and pointed out that his call-in submission referred to measures decided over year ago where there had been a residents survey and no less that 4 consultations (including statutory) You never know, the Labour leader might get out of the wrong side of the bed one day and start scrapping all measures installed in 2020.That’s all it takes when it’s down to one man.

Can the cabinet proceed with phase 3 of the Streetspace scheme even if the majority of councillors are opposed to it?

I don't know what evidence there is to suggest that a majority of all Hounslow's councillors are opposed to Streetspace. That needs to be tested. "Isn't this politicians doing what politicians do Sam?"It is highly unusual in Hounslow for a Labour Councillor to call for the resignation of two members of the borough's cabinet whilst speaking in a public forum  It is also rare for a councillor who is a member of the majority group in Hounslow to seek the call-in of a cabinet decision and that eight other Labour councillors agree to sign.I remember that when Cllr Louki's called in the Brent Lea decision he sought and received cross-party support.  May be they do things differently in Northern Ireland Michael?

Clearly it isn't unusual for the Conservative councillors to stab their leader in the back given 3 leaders in 3 years.I didn't see Labour as being any different given Corbyn, Momentum et al.In Northern Ireland there is a history of assassinating politicians.I didn't see any condemnation from our local councillors that one of their chums in the 'OneChiswick' group had been associated with a threat of this type of action.

It usually has something to do with missing the humor plus a little bit of cultural smear thrown in for good measure.
