We see in recent posts the smoke and mirrors of the lobbyists. Anyone who objects to any element of a scheme is described variously as a 'petrol head', anti cyclists, pro pollution, a fan of high traffic neighbourhoods, wanting to drive when and where they please etc etc.Labelling people and dismissing their views in preference to engagement. Then we have Tom with his usual 'smoke and mirrors' approach to data. He said:'It's therefore clear that the majority of the traffic measured is from outside the LTN and is using cut-throughs along residential streets in the LTN'.Firstly Tom, we don't actually know that it is from outside the LTN or the nature of that traffic. Remember, everyone generates traffic, even you, even if not in a car. Every online delivery, trades person, visiting carer or taxi by your definition is through traffic. Similarly, if someone on a neighbouring street drives into an LTN, then apparently they are through traffic. In fact, it seems leaving your own road you become through traffic. But most of all, let us remember that for many of these schemes there was no modelling or analysis performed, so its pretty hard to say in any case. Traffic is displaced and causes huge congestion elsewhere. I would again politely suggest Tom you go and look at the new bus gate in action see how it has hugely cut the junction capacity and caused queues, then tell me about the traffic evaporation fantasy.
