There are two things here. For vehicular traffic, new bottlenecks are being created and others made worse. The westbound High Road junction with Chiswick Lane a disaster. This stretch already had big queues back onto Goldhawk and King St due to the bus gate. Now we lose the left turn lane, and less vehicular green time overall. Buses lose the key stretch of bus lane so stuck with rest of traffic. Huge reduction in junction capacity. This will be gridlock, and remember route via Goldhawk is one of only two permissable routes over the tube lines. Then we have Dukes Av, we lose the right turn lane for eastbound traffic, with more vehicles making the turn due to closure of DR and Dukes Rd. This often halts eastbound traffic, with less vehicular green time due to the dedicated cycle green. Another big reduction in junction capacity. Finally for cyclsts, from past observations few will sit in a cycle lane (with just occasional posts as segregation) next to a lane of traffic that is flowing. So expect a lot of westbound cyclists to weave in and out of the lane around junctions. As for pedestrians, I have yet to meet a single person who feels this scheme helps them. Bus users, including the elderly and infirm, lose out big time.
