(Specifically those included in the South Chiswick plan.)I don't seem to be able to find any information about when these restrictions will be in place. By this I don't mean hours of operation, rather the days or weeks when they will apply. Surely not during school holidays? I did read somewhere that someone claimed to have picked up a ticket during half term. Will there be some on-street means of showing whether or not restrictions are in operation (for example covering the signs)?Sorry if I'm being thick but I can't seem to find this information anywhere on the relevant Hounslow websites. I'm trying to prepare for giving visitors instructions on how to drive to where I live - it's a pretty tricky business now trying to get from A to B without picking up a fine - or several.

BruceYou're not being thick, but as usual LB Hounslow are not being informative. However, if they were they wouldn't be able to dish out huge numbers of income producing PCN's £,£££,£££'s

I posted somewhere about someone getting a ticket in the school holidays . Maybe on Next Door? Someone else posted a picture to show they only operated in term time. If you don’t have children at school you may not be aware of when half term is of course. Similarly you can’t be sure all Councils will follow the same rules. It will be a minefield. The lady who got the ticket said she would appeal.

If you don't have children at school then you may not realise when term-time is either. Especially considering it can vary from one school to another let alone one Council to another.

I'm at a loss to understand how cameras are a better solution than the traditional method of school patrol crossings aka lollipop persons. You can even have a few flashing lights as here in Nottinghamshire. Is it because cyclists might have to stop too?

Sorry Philippa are you saying that this is a reason for imposing the restrictions even when the school is closed?
Keep hammering away by sending THE TORY GOVERNMENT ( GRANT SHAPPS IN PARTICULAR) a never sending a consistant stream of complaints about this entire TORY/CYCLING LOBBISTS "bribe scheme" which has been so badly administered by our greedy HOUNSLOW COUNCIL, Moaning amongst ourselves as all around us are dying achieves nothing - it must be action by the FULLY ELECTED TORY GOVERNMENT to stop these mad schemes.

All political parties including the local Conservative councillors support school streets. There is a consensus that they are a good thing because they operate during limited hours and residents retain access. For the ones I have seen they are well signposted but, if others are not this should be remedied immediately. The idea of these schemes is to protect the lives of children so there should be no possibility of the council being accused of using them as a revenue generating trap like they are doing on Turnham Green Terrace.

Jennifer I have contacted Grant Shapps and received two replies which were effectively the familiar catch-all responses designed to cover all eventualities. The first reply advised that I should take up my concerns with my local authority (!) which I have done with messages to the relevant councillors. The second reply, from The London Team at the DfT said that if I was unhappy with the response from the council I could take it up with the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman (LGSCO). I haven't yet done so but it remains an option. Anyone interested can visit the websitewww.lgo.org.uk/Meanwhile I would still really like an answer to my genuine enquiry about School Streets - as I'm sure would many others.
For clarity, I am not against school streets though I wonder if they achieve much over and above what traditional barrier methods delivered. However if the intention is to keep them in operational mode outside term time then I question the necessity.
