I'm inclined to think it is more about the candidates than the programme. Biden has experience and isn't Trump, but otherwise does not come across as inspiring. Still, at least the Democrats didn't put up their version of Old Jeremiah, Bernie Sanders, as by comparison even Trump would have appeared a sensible choice. There would then have been a direct parallel with our most recent election. The problem with their system is that when an inspiring younger politician comes along and wins the Presidency - for instance, Kennedy and Obama, both in their forties when elected - they usually have to learn on the job, which takes time. At least Biden's spell as Vice President means that he ought to know how to do the top job from the off and not spend most of the next four years getting the hang of it. In the event that Biden wins, Kamala Harris should serve four years as V-P, by which time she will be 60 (still not a youngster, but at least not as ancient as the two candidates this time round) and have the experience to do the top job, assuming that the US electorate's bias against women and people of colour can be overcome and she can win the election.
