How convenient....

...that the day (Monday) the scaffolding went up on the old lend-lease site on CHR was the day a massive black electronic advertising'module' has been installed right in the middle of the pavement leaving barely any room for push chairs/wheelchairs etc.

I thought those advertising blocksmon pavements had been turned down by Hounslow council as not be fit for purpose on hiswick Hi Road?  Or was that something else?

Sounds about right, Julian. I and many others I know are actively thinking about it.  House prices will drop, however, who would want to live in Chiswick now if you can afford a house here but can't get even from North to South Chiswick?  Eg if you buy in North Chiswick and thought you'd get the mainline train from Grove Park to Central London, you simply won't be able to unless you want to spend 30 or more minutes on the E3 just to get to the station (when people start taking buses again of course).

It is an overdevelopment but after sitting empty for years it could be welcome. The western end of the High Road, traffic aside, is doing pretty well now.But, its going to be at least 12 month of heavy construction traffic. Then assuming they sell, several hundred new occupants and several large retail stores. So lots and lots of traffic using the tight narrow junction of Acton lane. Good job TFL have not installed a pointless bus gate to restrict traffic, or Hounslow close the other two routes across the High Road. Otherwise it might be even more chaos. Of course, just like the roadworks on Acton Lane, Hounslow could not possibly have seen this coming....

My point was why site an advertising module in the middle of the pavement (which is now already restricted by the scaffolding). Personally I am glad something is being done about the development as that end of the high road looks so neglected.

I'm not. Like someone pointed out, it'll become the new Croydon. Most people I talk to from all walks of life are all looking to get out of Chiswick.It won't stop at some advertising intruding on your space.

I think people are in general thinking of moving away from London if they can work effectively from home. It’s not just a Chiswick thing.  There is still, however, a demand for property in Chiswick. This very morning there was a letter from a cash purchaser (with a healthy budget, she said) looking for a minimum three bedroom property with a garden.  People still want to move here.
