Anti virus recommendations please

I can't find any more recent than 2015 in the search engine and would appreciate some up-to-date suggestions.I've been with TotalAV for two years but both times it came up for renewal, they tried to DOUBLE the price. Not only that, but it resulted in my bank flagging the transaction as fraudulent and my wasting ages on the phone with them. So they're FIRED.Desktop PC running Windows.

If you're running Windows 10, the built-in Defender is more than adequate for home use.If you desperately want to pay for an A/V product, Avast or AVG are both perfectly good products (both have free versions that work perfectly fine, but will occasionally pop-up ads for their paid versions).

I'm afraid I'm still running Windows 7 and, yes, I do know.Thanks for the recommendations. I'll look into them tomorrow.I was running Norton before TotalAV but it started slowing my computer down to an intolerable degree.

I have Bitdefender (free version) and no probs. Works quietly in the background without draining the computers resources.

Mine is the paid for one because it offers much more protection but it's still well under £50.00 per annum (depends on the level of security you want, you can add on more if you want).  For peace of mind it's well worth it.  I also pay a small amount a month to an online backup company just in case the worst should happen.

My PC celebrates its tenth birthday next month so will need replacing sooner rather than later (don't tell it I said that). I'll get to grips with Windows 10 then.

I hear that bleach and bright light can be very effective with viruses. Not sure how you apply either onto your PC.

Yes but I don't accept the annual upgrade recommendations, I log on again as a new user and it's much cheaper.

Couldn't get Bitdefender to download (software incompatibilities, apparently. Have now installed free version of AVG and run first scan.
