Dog Pooh

Why does it now seem acceptable for dogs to do their business anywhere and everywhere just because the owners now have to pick it up. What happened to dogs going in the gutter ? Not pleasant sitting having a coffee watching a dog pooh on the pavement and although picked up,the residue left for someone to step in.

I don't recall a time when dogs were required to only poo in the gutter. Besides, that would not be nice for cyclists.

The strange new fashion seems to be  to pick up after Fido then leave the little black bag sitting in the street for someone else to deal with. Even worse are the bags thrown up into trees. Take it home for goodness sake.

do NOT chuck it over my garden wall/hedge (or anyone one else's).

Richard, back in the 1960's it was considered good manners to train our dogs to poo in the gutters and my dog got the hang of it quickly and would not need reminding!

I noticed an increase in dog poo on the pavements and footpaths during the lockdown. I put it down to owners on furlough or worse for them made redundant or perhaps those walking their own dogs as dogwalkers were isolating.Talking to a dog owning neighbour about my theory, she told me that she had spoken to a man about him not picking up his dogs poo and his response was that as he hadn't walked his dog before as only the dogwalker did it, he didn't know he had to. She explained things and offered him a poo bag which he used and then asked what should he do with it.She stressed that the whole conversation was very amicable so was sure his comments were true.

so the suggestion is to stand in the street while the dog does what it needs to do, and then while we clear up....?Good idea, I'm sure the speeding 4x4s will patiently wait for that.

Well trained dogs would wait until a suitable spot was found. It's the badly trained ones who are allowed to do their business on the footpath where people have to dodge around them and the owners whilst they pick up what they can.

Like the dirty selfish scum who drop their dog poo bags in my mum's bin in Wellesley Rd. It doesn't get taken away and just sits there till I have to remove them.

Cindy, the only time I have owned a dog was in the 1960s, and I don't recall anyone ever suggesting he should be trained to poo in the gutter.
