Democracy is not working for Chiswick, not only on traffic management but very nearly on every front. Of course, Chiswick is not alone on this kind of issue. The problem is with the parliamentary electoral party system. With Chiswick having a historically strong Conservative ward representation under a council with a historically strong Labour control, Chiswick has a very weak voice in having its local issues given consideration in the decision making process. This loss of voice in local issues is often seen across the country because of party politics, and until the whole date expired parliamentary party system is reviewed and changed to meet today's local and national needs, it appears we have no choice but to live with it. There is however one option for Chiswick that may have better representation benefits as an interim measure, and that is to have the three Chiswick wards assigned to Hammersmith and Fulham Borough, which has always been seen to be geographically more credible. If there is any procedural way we can make this happen, the good folk of Chiswick should get together to work on it.
