Ruth Cadbury on W4 road closures

“Which roads is TfL closing?”https://twitter.com/RuthCadbury/status/1305149186124455937?s=20Surely she knows what’s happening on her own doorstep, or is it because Hounslow are doing the actual work, with TfL sign off?

I suspect that what you say is right with regard to responsibility for the works.Ms Cadbury certainly must be aware of what's happening in Hounslow - I have emailed her twice about it myself though naturally, answer came there none. I suggest a few more people see if they can elicit a response.ruthcadburymp@parliament.uk

She sometimes responds. Rupa Huq, Labour for Ealing is a bit more alert to what’s going onhttps://www.onlondon.co.uk/from-ealing-to-lambeth-protests-continue-against-london-low-traffic-neighbourhoods/Meanwhile Ruth Cadbury was cheering along Mr Currans’s Brompton circus on Twitter, seemingly oblivious to what’s actually happening here.

Interesting. So, "Ealing Central and Acton MP Rupa Huq wrote to Ealing Council’s transport planning service manager shortly before the protest about her fears that LTNs had been “poorly thought through and rushed”. Her letter raised 12 questions, including the rationale for LTNs’ location, the timing of the consultation period, the criteria for the trial’s success or failure and who will judge this, and about emergency services and equality impact assessments."And what questions has Ms Cadbury asked on her constituents' behalf?I'm sure Ms Huq wouldn't mind if her colleague used cut and paste for her message to Hounslow.

She’s on the Transport Committee, and spoke there only 3 days ago, so eminently placed to ask questions. But sadly not ‘up to speed’ it  seems with the gridlock, chaos, delays, frustration, and anger re the multiple road closures, and more.https://committees.parliament.uk/committee/153/transport-committee/membership/

Her tweet makes sense to me as no roads are closing anywhere.

Tony Smart ● 2231d

Are you a lawyer by any chance?

Bruce Hammal ● 2231d

Thanks Tony, so you are saying its fine for people to drive down Fishers Lane and TGT. Just earlier you were insulting a local businessman for suggesting people do the same.

Paul Green ● 2231d

I took it to be a technical defence based on a strict  interpretation of "closure".

Bruce Hammal ● 2231d

>Her tweet makes sense to me as no roads are closing anywhere. Tony Smart“The access point for Harvard Hill onto the A4 westbound is now closed.”Hounslow Govhttps://www.hounslow.gov.uk/info/20053/transport/2181/south_chiswick_liveable_neighbourhood/4🤔

Russell Pearson ● 2231d

I think he is just being the same word he called David L

Paul Green ● 2231d

But m'Lud technically it is possible to drive around the barrier so is the road in an actual sense actually "closed". Ms Cadbury sounds to me like a woman perched very uncomfortably on a fence.

Bruce Hammal ● 2231d

On a point of accuracy, I would also suggest the TfL haven’t shut or restricted any roads in Chiswick to traffic. Unlike Hounslow or Ealing councils.

Andrew Jones ● 2231d

Yes, I mentioned that wheeze in my post. Technically Hounslow did the deed, or rather their agents did it for them. TfL only ‘signed the warrant’. Seems like splitting hairs to me.

Russell Pearson ● 2230d

Yes you are confusing access restrictions for certain modes with a road closure.  I am guessing that Ruth wasn't as confused.Hammersmith Bridge is closed if that helps.Yes Paul I am :)

Tony Smart ● 2230d

And with one bound, she was free!

Bruce Hammal ● 2230d

You all seem to have missed the point of her tweet.  It was in response to a tweet from a guy called Ashley Dally who said "Unfortunately your [meaning Labour, I guess] Mayor of London is causing the problem by closing loads of roads causing major traffic issues".I'm sure Ruth is aware that it's the boroughs rather than the Mayor who have made lots of changes, so she decided to have fun with the guy's ignorance and asked him which roads TfL is closing.

Richard Jennings ● 2230d

I get that. What fun. Unfortunately the semantic gymnastics don't excuse my MP's reluctance to engage with many of her constituents who have  valid complaints about Hounslow's implentation of these traffic measures.

Bruce Hammal ● 2230d

Wasn't trying to split hairs but I only spotted the mention of TfL in the original post when I skim read it and didn't notice how you qualified it. You make a reasonable point Russell.

Andrew Jones ● 2230d

Ruth is the MP for Brentford and Isleworth.Anyone else see a problem with that?

David Lesniak ● 2230d

And Chiswick too. I guess a road isn’t closed when it’s closed and TfL are not closing roads when they sign off the closures, or to hand out the money to councils install the bollards, ANPR and barricades to close them. Was her funny joke then?

Russell Pearson ● 2230d

Don't bother emailing her. She is fully aware and is fully supporting these road closures and the anti-car war.

Alex Shpinkov ● 2230d

Nothing on her website, but she’s been supporting TfL and Hounslow’s actions on Twitter. https://ruthcadbury.org/Could cost her the seat once the full impact is seen - people are only realising now what’s imminently planned for Grove Park for example.
