Grove park traffic mumble

Morning, Under the new rules, am I allowed to drive down Sutton court road, past St Paul's church and then up Hartington Road and head to Duke's meadow?

just in case: don't come back that way! The camera at Hartington is to restrict traffic coming in from the A316. I don't think the restriction is in yet so this is for future reference. Outside school closure hours you can use Staveley Road to come back in to GP from the A316 and during school hours Burlington Lane or, probably better, Hogarth rdnbt. Thought I'd best clarify as wouldn't want to be responsible for you getting a fine!

Imo The entire Grove Park/Strand on the Green road closures planned by LBH and apparently accepted by TfL on behalf of Grant Shapps - (strange that as we are hardly a hive of activity having TfL involvement only at the eastern end with just 2 bus routes) must be scrapped altogether.  The Transport Minister has acknowledged that many councils are abusing his "Bribe" Scheme putting in road closures which contradict his desires for residential areas.  This is just such a destructive scheme.  Please local Riverside Councillors get onto the Transport minister and have this scheme cancelled.

I’ve heard people talk of 2 versions of this mess. One is that apart from people living in the CPZ nearby, all traffic will be banned coming in. The second is that there will be a time restriction on leaving, if you leave within an hour, you get a fine, unless in the exempt CPZ. The latter presumes several more cameras to police it. The former could well mean the demise of those shops near the Station house pub, as getting to them would be rather convoluted in future. It needs an urgent repeal. It might work if all Grove Park CPZ were included, but as the aim is to punish drivers, that would not keep the anti car minority happy.

Sorry Madeleine. To be complete yes you can come back the same way if you are a resident in the "CS" and "RV" CPZ zones in the area between the railway lines and the river. I assumed Rob was not in that area based on the route he asked about.

The timed access restriction is a separate one from the Hartington Road one. The timed access restriction is for Thames road with entry and exit cameras west of Grove Park Terrace and by the Kew Bridge junction. I think they are still determining exact positioning of all cameras. So to be clear - there are two different camera restrictions. One based on CPZ at Hartington and one based on time between entry and exit for Thames Road through SOTG.

Agree the entire scheme goes against the aims of Grant Shapps - it is not beneficial in any way at all to the residents of Grove Park and Strand ot Green.  We do NOT need any road closures - stop heavy goods vehicles unless with a special permit - easy with a notice forbidding any vehicle over xxx tons at the entry points to the area - these are very commonly used and effective.  Those lumbering great giants trying to squeeze along Thames Road are a nuisance and nonsense also negotiating themselves to Harvard Hill or over Grove Park bridge to the A4.  They must be stopped and simple to do.

I cycled along Strand on the Green recently.It's not much fun. Lots of traffic clearly using it as a rat-run (as proven by the road survey).I, for one, am looking forward to the restrictions.

Interesting comment Simon. Why do you assume that the scheme to be imposed on residents by Hounslow Council without a proper public consultation is the best possible way of preventing the rat-running? There are alternatives.

What alternatives are they?Can you show me the consultation that took place to add Thames Rd/Strand on the Green to Waze/SatNav/GoogleMaps as a short cut to avoid the A Rds - I don't remember one. And of course you do know about ETOs don;t you Sam given they were a directive from the Party you belong to.

Consultation runs for 6 months following implementation of the scheme as per the ETO statutory guidance from the government. Due process is being followed. Those not in favour of the due process should lobby their Councillors to lobby the government. Or not vote Conservative of course!

Lets hope no more gets done as Grant Shapps is not happy with the likes of Hounslow Council.Grant Shapps has told councils to stop abusing the £250 million fund meant for a green transport revolution by installing pointless one way systems and barriers that offer “no benefit to anyone”.Writing in the Sunday Telegraph, the Secretary of State for Transport says he will personally intervene to scrap the worst examples where local authorities have ruined high streets and residential roads in an attempt to build cycle lanes and promote social distancincing for pedestrians.

Don't think there are any new cycle lanes planned in Grove Park, and don't believe the reasons given for the Grove Park scheme say much about social distancing.Completely different kettle of fish to what's occuring in North Chiswick.

"What alternatives are they?" - Kind of proves the point Ruth. You really have not thought any of this through. With a scheme as complex, interconnected as innovative as that being implemented across South Chiswick there are of course many alternatives that could be considered. But for now just to prove the point - the school street schemes will operate within defined hours but the other measures do not. Why is that? Why are the Hartington Road and Thames Road measures not time limited?

I think that is because the traffic counts on those roads are very high inside and also outside of peak comuting hours and that is what the traffic survey numbers confirm. School streets are an additional measure to eliminate almost all traffic in the immediate vicinity of the school to enable safer access for children and to encourage more of them to arrive on foot or by bike.

Delighted with your comments Cllr Sam Hearn we here are most fortunate to have you battling for W4 and especially for we the residents of Grove Park and SotG..  We already have ample space for self-distancing pedestrians.  Those using the few retail shops at Grove Park seem to be very polite and helpful.  Please get those heavy goods vehicles, including enormous car transporters banned from entering - that would make a big difference as there are many cutting through pretty much non-stop.  Thank you to you and all your fellow Councillors here in W4.

I wouldn't wont to be walking down a school street or waiting for a bus when a mass of germ machines are walking about.Those times are best avoided, who's going to marshal the pupils who get of the train at Chiswick station to make sure they adhere to social distancing wile walking down Burlington Lane.

Well I didn't say it is the best possible.Best possible is something one can never know, surely.But, based on the design that I've seen, it certainly sounds like it will drastically reduce traffic along Strand on the Green.There was a massive survey of local opinion. In what sense was that not a proper public consultation? Genuine question, not sarcasm. Per your timing question, it makes complete sense to me that the rat-running should be prevented at all times of day, so that locals can use the road comfortably at all times of day. Like me going for a lunch-time bike-ride.

Cllr Sam Hearn was strikingly unhelpful when Grove Park locals were campaigning against a giant phone mast on Sutton Court Road. The locals won nevertheless.But, as you say, if he's willing to help this time, and can help us reduce the rat-running, we'll take everything we can get.

I was never aware of any "public consultation".  How can that be?I would be very grateful for information on this. Thanks.

Hi RuthAs you're so fond of facts how about this and perhaps before you start knocking Conservative Councillors, are you qualified to comment on this when you personally counted over 7,000 people into the Flower Market, which is, overall a great initiative and appears to be successful and I applaud that. But nonetheless a very small GEA for that number of people.However, far too many people were crammed into a very small Sq Ft / Sq M area with questionable social distancing, as reported by the BBC. Especially with the increase in Covid-19  cases in both Chiswick and nationally. Just asking the question, so Ruth what do you think, was it responsible with the huge uptick of 2,988 new cases of Covid-19 to pack so many people into a comparatively small space ?  Just asking regarding alternatives as you seem to be an expert on the subject of alternatives.Many thanksLoraine

Paul - can I ask a question about the consultation? When I went on the consultation website it says it is open to December 2020, and that you can’t comment on a measure until it is implemented.We are now in September, and 2 of the more material changes - Hartington  Road and SOTG - haven’t been implemented yet.  Have the ETO already been issued for those schemes, such that the 6 month period is already running, albeit that we will only get 3-4 months to see how the changes work in practice?

There was a huge survey done about a year ago.Thousands of comments were collected on a giant online map of grove park. There were hundreds of comments applied to every road junction, every crossing, etc.I've no idea how you missed it.

Simon P and all other obstinate bike riders - have you never thought that there are some places where you are not permitted to ride your Bike?  For example the S ot G tow path!  You have to dismount and push the two wheeled machine.  Thames Road and the S ot G roads  are hardly scenic so why insist on riding there at the expense of LOCAL residents of the area.

Hi Sarah. I believe that the clock starts on the consultation when they issue the Traffic order. They do not appear to have done that yet for Hartington or SOTG. 6 months will be the minimum duration for the consultation. The time for consultation can be extended and the deadline for the decision to remove the measure or make it permanent is 18 months from the start of the traffic order.So I think that they will open the consultation website for longer in order to comply with the stautory guidance.Hope that helps!
