Road Closures

" Fishers Lane and Turnham Green Terrace in Chiswick have been closed to cars by Hounslow Council as part of the governments emergency COVID legislation to encourage cycle use and walking. "I agree with the sentiment, but LBH hasn't closed Fishers lane, Ealing has. I'd suggest that whoever generated the petition needs to get it worded correctly, and more importantly aimed at the right people. Or it will be a perfect excuse for them to ignore it.

Agree, Ealing will use any excuse to ignore a petition, The one started on change.org has almost 4900 signatures petitioning Ealing council to consult before implementing wide-scale road closures and diversions. Ealing have said that they will ignore it as it was not on their official petition site.

Easy enough to make a mistake on the borough boundary though. Hounslow has closed Occupation Lane, a small road leading to Clayponds Hospital in South Ealing. The concrete block closure directly beside the 'Clayponds Lane W5' sign. Anyone complaining to LB Ealing is referred to LB Hounslow and anyone complaining to LB Hounslow is being told that the road is is Ealing!

Just seen footage of Brighton council dismantling new cycle lanes "Disruptive" ....and thats run by The Green Party I think

Correct, they took an already terribly congested road (by the Aquarium roundabout if you know the area) and implemented a bike lane which delayed the buses as it reduced the road to a single narrow lane. Over £300,000 spent for nothing.

The wording has been changed to reflect the fact that the changes involve both Hounslow and Ealing councils. Whether a council has a good track record of responding to petitions is irrelevant (Hounslow ignored the 5,452 people who petitioned for a better CS9 - and that petition was on the official Hounslow-backed petition site). It is a means to express a view in a world where so many do not feel listened to. I go to Chiswick every day for shopping and to take our disabled mother to the lovely Chiswick House and Gardens.But I don't actually live in Hounslow, does that matter do you think, or would it still make sense for me to sign the petition?

Personally I think these petitions are a waste of time. They encourage people to think they have done their bit. However, if they then choose not to respond to the official consultation their views will be ignored.

Then don't sign it!Fishers Lane is in Ealing as is Occupation Lane which has been closed by LB Hounslow. Ealing are NOT running any consultation on closures citing the powers given to them by Experimental Traffic Orders.By all means, sit back and be walked over. The Ealing petition now has almost 6000 signatures.

I have never had much respect for councils, seeing them as overpopulated. overpaid, undemocratic, arrogant, and in some proven cases, corrupt.  I now add to that stupid, incompetent, dim and harmful.  What they have done will savage Chiswick. They live in a dreamworld where traffic will miraculously evaporate and Chiswick will become a village idyll.  Traffic won't go away. Given the fear of public transport, which the goverment has latterly (as opposed to Sidiq Khan saying you can't catch C19 on public transport) told us to avoid it, and we don't know how long this is going to go on for, are looking to either ideally buy or hire cars.  So, and as more and more homes are built locally, traffic will continue.  I know of no one planning to give up their car.  Most are planning how to circumnatigate the routes or blatantly saying no camera = free access.
