Fusion

It’s about time fusion got stripped from running the leisure centres. I stopped using them  as they were run so poorly.Can’t even be bothered to reopen.

What I want more than anything is the truth.I keep getting "updates" about how much they love me and that they are working hard in co-operation with LBH to bring back their facilities but nothing about what the problem is. Their is something they are hiding from us and we deserve to know what it is.

Ultimately Fusion is just a sub-contractor for Hounslow Council so the latter have primary responsibility for getting things up and running again. Fusion have reopened facilities in other boroughs so the issue probably isn't really safety but the terms of their contract. Best guess would be they want changes because of the way social distancing has reduced potential revenues but Hounslow won't play ball. Every day the centres don't reopen they are saving money so they are in no rush. There are lots of murmurings that, whatever happens, the Fountains centre won't be returning. That site is now prime development land and it would be amazing if a scheme to put up flats on it wasn't submitted by the end of the year.

David what you say makes sense but is speculation.I want facts which maybe our local councillors could and should provide us with.Saving money on health is so short sighted if that's what it is.

does anyone have new numbers on foreign house/flat ownerhsip of London?  5 years ago it was 30% of new purchases?

It depends on what postcode.  For the best areas the latest figures I saw (2018) were over 50%.But it is important to note that there never has been any significant evidence of foreigners leaving properties empty. They are almost always occupied by family or part of a rental portfolio. But I do not see this as a problem.  If people are moving to London and want to buy a property to live their why is this an issue?  We do not complain when people, like me, move from other parts of the UK to London and buy property, to complain if that person is not a native born Brit seems at best Xenophobic

A lot threads go off topic but Fusion to foreigners takes the biscuit. Let's get back on track. What is really going on between LBH and Fusion?Please can we have some honesty.

I honestly can't tell you what is going on but it is always likely that negotiations will be protracted if one side has a vested interest in them not being completed.As 'two weeks' seems to have been mentioned a couple of time as a possible point of conclusion a week ago, it seems likely that some kind of reopening will take place in time for the school term beginning.

'Vanessa, what's that got to do with the subject under discussion?'The connection is that whilst it may be rumoured that The Fountain may not re-open for the public. Just down the road there will be an exclusive swimming pool for the people who can afford to buy into the Ballymore developoment.

There was an idea that a new Fountain Leisure Centre could be built on the bottom floor of high rise flats very close to the present site. I don't know what happened to that idea. I believe that very thing is happening with Gurnell Pool in Ealing.

I used to take my children to The Fountain and a good time was had by all.When New Chiswick Pool was being refurbished I tried The Fountain. It was fine but Richmond far far better.Leisure facilities being available to all is vital and must be provided but I have no problem with folk that can afford something exclusive.Good luck to them.

None of us know whether there is a reason beyond coronavirus in general that is preventing the Hounslow pools and gyms from reopening. I am getting a tad annoyed at the situation though. I managed to get into the aquafit at Richmond Pools on the Park this morning (indoor pool). Both the indoor and outdoor pools are open, admittedly with limitations on numbers and also not being able to have a shower after isn't ideal but nevertheless open. What is the hold up in Hounslow, I wonder?

According to the update on the front page we will learn more with the publication of a report to be presented to the borough's cabinet this week. Presumably that will have to be put into the public domain so we might actually find out what is going on.I asked before if Hounslow was the last borough to reopen their centres - perhaps it would be more reasonable to ask if anyone knows of another borough who hasn't opened them yet.

I have a retired person’s subscription to Fusion and have not been  charged since lockdown. Suddenly, I find I have been charged £10 this month without prior warning. Also, I am at my house in Normandy at the moment and for the last five weeks I have swum twice a week at the pool in Forges les Eaux. It is very well organised. You can book two sessions a week by phone on Tuesdays. Up till now there have been just 12 swimmers per hour, two to a lane though this changing to 4 now. You can shower afterwards. I’m going to miss this when I come back into quarantine next Thursday.

They must think we are a bunch of mugs of we are supposed to believe for a second it's all about the safety of users.The truth would be good from Hounslow/Fusion or is that too embarrassing for them.Wait for the bombshell folks. Truly shameful.

I just do not understand why on earth the libraries cannot open, Richmond have had a 'click and collect' system running for ages. Hounslow's tardiness in re-opening leisure facilities is what comes of outsourcing these services.

I hadn't seen anyone in the New Chiswick Pool until this past week.The pool had gone very green on the bottom.  It has now been completely cleaned and looks ready to use again. Still no 2 metre floor stand here type stickers we see when things re-open.  So although they are at last doing something as with everything with Fusion it's slow progress.
