What selfish people Jon - maybe someone will creep round under cover of darkness and upend all their rubbish on their doorstep .......

Madeleine Hazard ● 2266d

Jon:Your Councillorsalso mik.sabiers@ealing.gov.ukjulian.bell@ealing.gov.ukWe all need for pavement space and what you are telling us is ridiculously selfish.  Please try those mentioned above again.

https://www.ealing.gov.uk/info/201167/rubbish_and_recycling/2108/your_collection_service/5"All rubbish must be placed inside the black bin with the lid kept shut. Extra rubbish put on top or next to the bin will not be collected.Recycling must be placed in the blue bin. We will take extra recycling, but please try to fit it in the bin first.By 7am on your collection day, leave your bin at the edge of your property, close to the street/pavement, but not on it.Bins will be returned to their collection point."Yours bins should NOT be left on the pavement according to this. This allows all socially distancing pedestrians and wheelchairs and disability scooters and buggies including all those with poor sight and mobility to be able to use the pavement safely.

Stick a sign on saying 'Left on pavement by selfish, thoughtless people'. Wheel the bin so that it blocks their exit/entry and do it often. Trip over the bin and inform the Council, threatening to sue for compensation.Unfortunately all of the above may involve some risk to your personal safety.

Hi Jon - I am one of your three local Councillors and am happy to help with the situation. Could you please email me at gary.malcolm@ealing.gov.uk with the address in question where the bins are outside. Ideally a photo is great and I can contact the Council officers. Thanks, Cllr Gary Malcolm

Gary Malcolm ● 2265d

My favourite solution would be to take those bins for a walk to create maximum inconvenience for these disrespectful and inconsiderate people.

Elizabeth Ross ● 2265d

Thank u Gary will doSeems we made matters worse by asking them as now they have decided to leave more rubbish in bags on pavement .

Jon morris ● 2265d

It would be good if there was a general request to everyone to keep pavements clear for pedestrians as we are still supposed to be on 2m socially distancing and a reminder to everyone that their bins should not only NOT be left on the pavement for collection but should also not remain there.

Philippa Bond ● 2265d

"as now they have decided to leave more rubbish in bags on pavement ."That is also illegal so the Council can fine them.

Steve Taylor ● 2264d

The Council are far too busy planning what roads to bugger up next with their planters to worry about rubbish bags blocking pavements. That reminds me did anyone get Labour to listen on Monday 17th?  Don't know the venue but it was in Chiswick according to the front page here.

Jennifer Selig ● 2264d

Different departments of the Council deal with different matters as you are no doubt aware. If you had read the thread you will have seen (if I remember correctly) that the OP lives in the Ealing part of Chiswick so go figure.

Anne England ● 2264d

Quite correct Anne - had forgotten - gets a bit muddly having the two councils operating, or not!, in W4.

Jennifer Selig ● 2263d

They now added another 2 bins four in total.I know Gary from Southfield ward had helped and reported to Ealing council like we have done.Hopefully Ealing council get a move on.

Jon, there's a new regime who seem to be trying to make their own mark.  We have people like that in our street and the reaction seems to be to issue more wheelie bins to houses deemed unsuitable for them - even though there has been no problem.  The last bin spillage in the street was from a wheelie bin that blew over and that was not even this week!If somebody can fine a nurse for putting a basket of apples outside for neighbours to take eliciting a letter of apology from Julian Bell then they have got their priorities wrong - and so I suggest that you email both Mik Sabiers and Julian Bell as well as letting Gary Malcolm know.

Philippa Bond ● 2257d

Surely they should be fined for leaving wheelies on the pavement?

Steve Taylor ● 2257d

Wheelies are not supposed to be on the pavement.  It might be nicer to give everyone a warning first.  This has been a difficult time.  We want the space on the pavement for people to be able to walk and for buggies and wheelchairs etc while socially distancing which is TWO metres without masks.

Philippa Bond ● 2257d

Would be better if the warning were on every bin and mention of a fine would deter this inconsiderate behaviour.

Janice Evans ● 2257d

"It might be nicer to give everyone a warning first."Why be nice to selfish, inconsiderate people purposefully  breaking the law?

Steve Taylor ● 2257d

on day of collection they could put a sticker on each bin,job done, or is it not that easy.

Janice Evans ● 2257d

"they could put a sticker on each bin,job done,"Why waste taxpayers money on stickers stating the obvious.  Fine the criminals and they will soon learn how to behave.

Steve Taylor ● 2256d

Well they are still doing it 4 in total They have front ,side  and back garden.Blue bins collection yesterday The black bin collection next Tuesday and both are overflowing Yes Gary Malcolm emailed me and I sent him pics as well he reported it as I did but council haven’t done anything yet.

Jon morris ● 2256d

Leaving them out on the street invites contributions from everyone passing by and I don't suppose they will wash them out either.  What about food waste bins - it would be good if the Council's contractor was a lot more proactive about those.  An increase in that weekly collection would help reduce the smell of those too close to everyone's noses bins and reduce the content.Yes, a good idea to have notices on the bins.  I am reminded that when we had black sacks from the Council or their contractors they had silver printing and a picture of a person and walking stick on them telling us not to leave them on the pavement as a trip hazard.  We are going backwards.

Philippa Bond ● 2255d

"What about food waste bins"A very good point. I have noticed that very few people are using them. They seal very well so there should be little or no smell.  I wouldn't advocate more than a weekly collection though because it would result in more unsightly mess when people forget to take them back inside.  It s incredible how many people leave their empty recycle boxes and wheelies on the pavements for days after the collections have taken place.

Steve Taylor ● 2255d

"It s incredible how many people leave their empty recycle boxes and wheelies on the pavements for days after the collections have taken place."Maybe they're away for a few days. But the people who have left them on the pavement are the refuse/recycling crews. After collection, the boxes and bins should be left on the resident's property if they have a garden or path.  To be fair, Hounslow often do so, but not always.

Richard Jennings ● 2255d

"Maybe they're away for a few days."A fair point but most responsible people would ask their neighbours to assist. In our community we all help each other out in such instances.

Steve Taylor ● 2255d

Apparently one banana skin sent for anaerobic digestion (which is what happens to LBE and LBH food waste collection) creates enough energy to charge your mobile phone twice.

Philippa Bond ● 2255d

Yeah but your care in the community Steve its different...Joke mate JOKE!

Mick Collins ● 2255d

My neighbour and I bring each others bins in.  It's no big deal.
