WELL DONE Riverside Councillors

Thank you to our 3 Riverside Councillors for taking up the cudgels on behalf of we the beleaguered residents of Grove Park & S ot G.    Renamed South Chiswick by Hounslow Council - that's presumably because they have split us into 2 separate areas in oder to prevent the eastern end of GP to access and leave via Strand on the Green and visa versa.Anyway I wish our local Councillors every good luck and hope they can negotiate a sensible solution to the mad road closures due to be foisted upon us here.   Heavy good vehicles can be prohibited from entering if over a certain weight with signs at all entry points.   Also rush hour traffic can be prevented with signs and cameras too which will obviate the need to close roads to residents. Thanks you Cllrs Hearn, Gilies, and Denniss.

I heartily concur, Jennifer. Thanks for your input.

Yes indeed. This is like a local version of the exams debacle - knee jerk reaction and then ignore the policy until enough people complain about how stupid it is.

Russell - I am afraid that you are rather ill informed but in this case it is not your fault - mea culpa.Yes we have left active public campaigning to vociferous local residents and groups. We (your councillors) have been discussing the South Chiswick Liveable Neighbourhood scheme with officers since October and commenting in detail on the proposals that emerged after the Covid-Lock down in March. We have been regularly in contact with officers in recent months via Micro-Soft Teams. We have tried very very hard not to make this a party-political matter but to work behind the scenes making helpful suggestions and pointing out the error of their ways. It was our judgement that this would be the best way to significantly modify the proposals - it worked for Edensor Road.We are certainly now well informed about the plans which for many months were shall we say rather sketchy. We have now reached the end of the line with the softly softly approach. We are speaking out and making it clear that a scheme imposed without proper consultation, without traffic modelling, with no consideration of traffic speeds, that does not address the north-south evening rush hour and that is in force 24/7 is unacceptable.

We have now reached the end of the line with the softly softly approach. We are speaking out and making it clear that a scheme imposed without proper consultation, without traffic modelling, with no consideration of traffic speeds, that does not address the north-south evening rush hour and that is in force 24/7 is unacceptable.  Why not take it a stage further and organise a public demonstration?

Bernard, good idea but social distancing would rule that out for now I think.

Adrian Irving ● 2265d

The BLM managed to do it.Wearing PPE and keeping one metre plus apart I would go for it.We are meant to be safer in the open air than inside a building.I am probably more likely to be infected in a supper market, where no one social distances, as there still walking straight passed you shoulder to shoulder.

The French just go at it - Civil Disobedience I believe it's called, it may well come to that if these idiotic closures imposed by a council refusing to listen to their constituents.  Meanwhile thank you again Riverside Councillors and all the other Councillors who have been pressing for proper consultations and a rethink on the entire scheme.

Many years ago I'm sure there was an assurance given by the Brentford and Chiswick Council (pre 1965) that the development of the Cromwell Road Extention, Ellesmere Road and Cedars Roadwould be sympathetic to the needs of residents. The Sutton Court Road junction for example was possible going to have an underpass!Travelling on the eastern carriageway to wsrds London..there were gaps in the central reservation to have right turns into local roads.I believe the first construction was the bridge over the District and LMS line at Gunnersbury before the War.It all gradually evolved during the 1950s, with Jayne Mansfield opening the Flyover in 1959 and then the full blown M4 in 1965/1966.Greater respect should be shown by those "incomers" to the West of Chiswick and take on board Chiswickian's plight.
