Why is it that local councils in London seem so divorced from their residents ? I wonder whether it would work better if we reverted to much smaller council areas and left the GLA to deal with London-wide issues ? If LBH was broken up into Chiswick, Brentford, Isleworth, Hounslow, Feltham etc then at least the councillors controlling matters could be expected to live amongst those they controlled. There is no reason why services such as rubbish collection could not cover more than one small borough and gain economies of scale, but matters like street closures really ought to be dealt with at the most local level, whether it be Church Street in Isleworth or Turnham Green Terrace. Councillor Hanif Khan's apparent unwillingness to interact with residents who are impacted by his policies says it all, really.
