I saw a green woodpecker last week on the ground in a fairly quiet area of Chiswick House Grounds. I don’t recall seeing one there before, does anyone know if they are often seen there.

There is a triangle of back gardens bounded by Burlington Lane, Corney Road and Grantham Road where woodpeckers are regularly sighted and heard.As Burlington Lane is adjacent to Chiswick House I think it likely that sightings in the House grounds are fairly regular.

I have a pair of Greater Spotted Woodpeckers who feed off my suet cake feeder. They're so lovely to watch and the male is stunning.

I saw one by the Chiz; first time for me too. I suspect that it was a youngster trying out his wings. I hear them all the time but this is the first time I've seen one on the ground.
