Problem with Sainsbury fruit

I am fairly new to online shopping. I have twice found that something I ordered from Sainsbury was rotten after I unpacked the order. What have other people done when this happens?

Only had it once, called their helpline. Profuse apologies, cost credited and a goodwill voucher off the next shop.

I switched to Ocado because the fruit from Sainsburys, particularly the peaches, frequently came with fur, which wasn't what I wanted.  Unfortunately Ocado didn't seem able to keep to the allocated time slots so I have recently gone back to Sainsburys.  Fruit has been ok last couple of weeks.  But neighbours say theirs often arrives from Sainsburys as if it's been thrown around the van.  If everyone complains to them perhaps they'll get the message about keeping the fruit in suitable conditions.

I try not to order fresh produce for online delivery because it appears they select stuff which is already close to its sell by date. Best to go to the stalls where you can buy the quantity you want at the appropriate level of ripeness.

Many thanks all. Good point about selecting stuff near its' sell by date. When I shopped in person I would of course look for stuff with a long life in it!

They all pretty measure up the same as if you were buying in person from the supermarket - in that cheaper, maybe 'unripened' versions can be Okay, whereas if you want 'guaranteed' freshness, and taste the premium brands never seem to let u down.

Still best to buy online even if the fruit is a little manky.  Every time you go into a shop you risk catching and spreading the virus.  The second wave is coming. Stay Home, Stay Safe, Protect the NHS. Save Lives!

shopping online can sometimes be cheaper too - not always but well thought out purchasing can make the whole online thing a winner, you may never want to give up

My neighbour has the same problem with fruit at Sainsbury and now goes to M & S.I had problems with their salads and open bags. I requested a refund and got it.Also items very close to the use by date.
