Britain Has 100,000 Slaves

I would respect the BLM movement much more if they addressed this - ie what is happening here and now in sweat shops in Leicester and elsewhere.  Police apparently too frightened of being accused of racism to do anything. Not just BLM of course - everyone who cares about justice for people of any colour.   Would be much more effective focusing on real, specific issues of today that taking knees and toppling statues and silly meetings where people just mill around. Petitions to parliament, lobbying MPs, encouraging whistle blowing would all be good to get this stopped.

Many more, hardly does it justice.In the 2016 Global Slavery Index, it was reported that there were, at a minimum 8 million people in modern slavery in India.  The total figure may actually be 10 million higher.To put the UK figure, which is appalling, into context please read https://www.globalslaveryindex.org/2018/findings/country-studies/india/Sadly, it is reported that 'cultural senisitivities' preclude on much enforcement action in the UK as the enslavement is largely confined within ethnic communities.

Lets try and stay focused on modern slavery in the UK. There is plenty of legislation , minimum wage for a start. The 'cultural sensitivities' argument for how this allowed to continue deflects from the fact it MUST NOT be allowed to continue. So lets at least try using the powers that already exist to stop this .

It may have done, doesn't mean it has to always be the same. Keep thinking, keep asking and challenging the status quo. If you're happy with the much mentioned £7 dress you are complicit in modern slavery.

Well lets just try prosecuting the perps rather than just saying it can/can't happen . We're all these keyboard warriors why don't we tell our MPs how we feel. I don't expect it to make a difference, but doing nothing other than wanging on here won't help.

More than a keyboard warrior here. Through our church and the the local synod we were engaged with a group in Southall which was working with women who had been trafficked to the UK for sex. We were supprting their case workers financially.I acnnot mention the name of the organisation but they were among the bravest people I have met working with the police to disrupt organised crime gangs who were bringing the women into the UK. The police were disrupting from the top down while the Southall group were rescuing the victims when they managed to escape the clutches of highly organised pimps and handlers.The stories were horrific and many were from eastern European families complicit in selling the 'extra daughter' into, an often all too short, life as a sex slave.
