A gross story but ...

Last week our dog sneaked off and ate some sh*t behind one of the back paths in Chiswick House. I mean human sh*t. He was duly chastised, and marched back home for an appointment with the hose. That night he couldn't hold his head, was unsteady on his feet, flinching and shivering. And scared.After 24 hours in the vets and a hefty bill he is fine. He was poisoned with cannabis. He had ingested it through the human sh*t. He was completely stoned from eating human faeces. Makes you wonder what kind of world we live in. Be careful with your dog in that park.

Years ago we adopted an unwanted goose - unknown to us at the time she was raised on a cannabis 'farm' in a village where most of the villagers were supplied with the stuff - she was completely off the rails and 3 times tried to behead one of our chickens - at first we, and the vet, thought a fox was guilty for the horrible injuries, until one of my children caught her red handed.Cannabis does nasty things to animals.Sorry about your dog.As for the world we live in, I have all but given up hope.

SimonLast Saturday afternoon as a bout 3.30pm I entered Chiswick House  grounds  from the Park Road entrance and took the path immediately on the right hand side through the wooded section  about 100 yards in I  very unfortunately, came across 2 x 20 somethings men, one of whom was defecating - absolutely disgusting. I registered my disgust  and provided him with a Dogs Trust poo bag, he then started to verbally abuse me, however as I'm not a shrinking violet I screamed  "help" and 3 people came to my assistance.I've no idea who this man was, other than neither he nor his friend had a dog with them, please can someone tell me that in the 21st century this is even vaguely acceptable behaviour.On Sunday morning myself and  a friend  set out for our usual walk and came across  loads of rubbish - bottles, cans, plastic food containers etc etc etc plus  soiled children's nappies! What's wrong with people who think that this is acceptable behaviour ?Absolutely  disgusting !I sincerely hope that your canine family friend has recovered Best wishes Loraine

That's an horrific situation and I am so glad that your dog pulled through. I live in dread of a dog ingesting or inhaling illicit drugs. I have personally known two fatalities locally; one dog that ingested an unidentified "wrap" and another that inhaled discarded amphetamines. One other dog was injured when he bit through a discarded nitrous oxide canister that exploded.I have also been approached by a company asking me to promote the use of OTC cannabinoids in dogs (https://www.dogsnet.org/the-dope-about-dope/) and there are plenty of cases reported where dogs have ingested THC and other substances - accidentally or even because they have been administered deliberately. I worry that, with the financial prognosis dire for many, too many people will attempt to bypass their vet.Yes, please be careful when out with your dog, train reliable recall and keep your eyes peeled.
