Dominic Cummings

Dominic Cummings wants to take power away from you and give it to profit-hungry property developers. We’ve got just weeks to stop him -- or see our streets become unrecognisable. Can you sign to stop this disastrous plan? SIGN THE PETITION Rima,Wave goodbye to your right to a say in what’s built in your local area -- if Dominic Cummings gets his way. We’ve got just weeks to stop him. He's working on a plan to rip up the rules for new buildings in England -- and replace it with a US style scheme. It could fill neighbourhoods with shoddy flats and ugly office buildings. But Cummings’ plan won’t affect every community the same way. City streets, not the countryside, will be the focus -- so people of colour will be far worse affected.Cummings is trying to sneak this plan through as part of a coronavirus recovery programme -- and Boris Johnson just announced the first of the changes. The full outrageous plans will be published within weeks. If no one seems to care, these changes will become law before we know it.We need to build a huge public backlash right now -- can you add your name today?Dominic Cummings’ reckless US-style plan would take power over your local area away from expert planners with extensive local knowledge -- and give it to giant new “development corporations”. Remember, this is the same government who brought in a planning loophole that has allowed developers to build new flats without windows. Too many people are already trapped in poor quality housing. But more than a million homes given planning permission in the last 10 years haven’t been built. So ripping up England’s planning rules to give power to profit hungry developers won’t fix things.Sign and share the petition

The purpose of the unnecessary lockdown was/is to bring about various nefarious aims.

Possibly one 'good' thing about Covid-19 is that it has shown conclusively that tens of thousands of people in London can now work from home. Many companies will now be down-sizing office premises so I foresee than many landlords will have little option but to convert office space to residential dwellings if they don't want to leave tower blocks empty. Hopefully this will assist with the housing shortage and the fact that so many 'workers' won't have to commute around London will surely be good for the environment too?The mental health of those working from home will of course need to be carefully monitored because it is not in our DNA to be so isolated.

Office buildings tend not to have the amenity space that always was required with housing.  Our parks and public spaces are very important for mental health.  So is the way that buildings are built.  Heating and cooling is important and if you don't have enough insulation and then can't open windows to get a through breeze to cool rooms or because it dangerously disrupts the mechanical air flow then you will be relying on even more energy to cool or heat rooms.

"Office buildings tend not to have the amenity space that always was required with housing."That is true but plenty of office space has already been converted to dwellings across London, as well as New York, Sydney to name a few. Owners of these buildings will have to rethink their business plans if they don't want their buildings to remain empty as more and more companies downsize office requirements. Same will be true of hotels as demand decreases. Businesses have already determined that there will be FAR less company travel in the coming years because much of it is totally unneccessary.

Until we have full details of what is proposed then any campaign to stop it is nothing more the left wing posturing - blaming it all on Cummings is a bit of a give away.I am old enough to remember many different govts promising a bonfire of regulations, that would make getting planning permission easier etc.  In the last 40 years every govt has promised something along these lines and every govt has failed to inflict any material improvement on the planning process...although despite BoJo's utterances I am fairly sure the newt counting process has been fast tracked which I suppose counts as progress of a sort

I thought that the vote was often against these buildings being turned into housing because they create some very poor homes.  It's expensive going to appeal...  I thought that the housing developers had enough power already but I suppose they never have enough money.  The stories of the wriggling out of paying section 106 or CIL are legion.

A good way to kick start the economy maybe??  Considering these are 'unprecedented times' maybe the govt could put an expiry date on those older (1 million) planning applications.  The older plans and approved permissions have 12 months say to start work, or they lose permission and must  reapply...think of the activity?  And help with some needed capital readjustment
